Sector 31 was planned early. The Tribune notes that it sits in the block of Sectors 31 to 38 that, unlike most sectors from 24 to 57, did not come up after the 1990s (The Tribune). Plotted houses make up much of it, and the Raheja Atlantis group-housing towers stand on its edge with Sector 32. Jharsa village lies close by.
The sector has changed fast. At newly built houses here, The Tribune found stilt parking turned into office cabins, pushing cars onto the street, and a resident warned that a fire engine or ambulance could not get through the bylanes at night (The Tribune). In 2024 the same paper named Sector 31 among the older sectors worst hit by houses converted to commercial use.
