How Domestic and International Relocation Services Differ

The short version. Each row is explained in more detail on the domestic moving and international moving pages.

Moving within India compared with moving abroad
Aspect Within India Abroad
TransportBy road, door to door, in a truck or trailer sized to your goods.Road to the point of departure, then sea or air freight, then onward delivery as arranged for your destination.
Packing gradeCartons, drums and pallets chosen for days on the highway.Export packing: every item wrapped, cartons sealed and stretch-wrapped, fragile pieces in drums or crates.
PaperworkUsually light: ID, address proof and a list of goods. Some routes need more.Passport, visa or permit, a numbered packing list and any forms the destination asks for.
Planning timeCan often be arranged at shorter notice once your date is fixed.Needs more lead time for documents, freight and deciding what to ship.
What you can takeAlmost everything except the items on our prohibited list. Our prohibited list plus the destination’s own limits, often on food, plants and medicines.
Your carTravels separately on a covered car carrier, traced online.Depends on the destination’s vehicle import rules. Ask before planning on it.
StorageCovers a gap between homes, then delivery within India.Keeps what stays behind safe in India while you settle abroad.

Planning

Two Timelines, Side by Side

The order of work for each kind of move. Your own dates depend on the route and the destination.

Moving within India

  1. Quote. Share both cities, your home size and your date.

  2. Sort. Decide what goes, and set aside documents and valuables to carry yourself.

  3. Pack and load at your old home, every carton numbered.

  4. On the road. Goods travel by truck; a car follows on its own carrier.

  5. Arrive and unpack. Unloaded, counted and unpacked at the new home.

Moving abroad

  1. Survey and destination check. We go through what you plan to ship and what your country allows.

  2. Ship, store or leave. Sort the home into groups and book storage for what stays.

  3. Documents. Gather passport and visa copies while we build the numbered packing list.

  4. Export packing. Everything wrapped, crated where needed and numbered.

  5. Dispatch. Goods leave for shipping as arranged for your destination.

Both at once

One Home, Two Destinations

Some moves are both at once. A family relocating overseas might send the sofa set and books abroad, a cupboard of heirlooms to parents in Lucknow, and the rest to storage until they decide. That is three jobs with one packing day.

When you book both services together, the crew packs and labels by destination: one code for the overseas shipment, another for the intercity truck, another for the warehouse. Nothing meant for Lucknow ends up with the export cartons.

Your car can take a fourth route, onto a covered car carrier to the family home, while you fly.

Pricing guidance

What decides the cost, at home and abroad

Some cost factors apply to both kinds of move; others only to one. Here is which is which.

Within India: distance
Kilometres, tolls and days on the road between the two cities.
Within India: vehicle size
The volume of goods decides whether a light-duty vehicle, a truck or a trailer is needed.
Abroad: sea or air
The freight mode changes the price more than almost any other single choice.
Abroad: how far the quote goes
Whether the price ends when goods leave India or includes delivery to your new home.
Both: packing grade
Road packing for India, export packing for abroad; fragile or heavy items add drums or crates.
Both: storage
Days or months in storage for goods that are not travelling yet.

FAQ

Domestic or International: Your Questions

Still have a question?

Call or WhatsApp us and talk it through with our team.

Start as soon as the move abroad looks likely. Documents, freight arrangements and sorting a whole home take longer than booking a truck within India. Share your expected date and we will tell you when packing needs to be booked.

Yes. The same crew can pack both on the same day, labelling each carton by destination, and you deal with one team for both quotes.

Whether your goods stay in India or go abroad, we do not carry alcoholic beverages, firearms, ammunition, jewellery, cash, liquid items or pornographic material. For moves abroad, the destination country usually adds its own list.

Yes. Part of your home can stay in storage in India while the rest ships, and move later to you or to another address within India.

Usually, because freight, export packing and destination charges add up. That is why many people ship less, and store or sell more, when they move abroad. Compare quotes for both before you decide what to take.
