Pune moves are shaped by work and study. The IT parks at Hinjewadi and Kharadi sit on opposite sides of the city, and a job switch from one to the other can mean a shift of about 30 km through some of Pune's slowest traffic. Students arrive for engineering and management courses every June and July, and many leave a few years later with a one-room setup to move.

The old city is a different job again. In the peths around Shaniwar Wada, homes sit on narrow lanes, and some old wadas have steep wooden stairs. For these we plan a smaller vehicle and more hands.

Which Pune Roads and Landmarks Shape a Move?

Roads and places that decide the route and the timing of a Pune move.

  1. Mumbai–Pune Expressway

    The route to Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The expressway, run by the state's road development corporation, climbs the Bhor Ghat near Lonavala and Khandala, where monsoon landslides have closed it for hours at a time, so we allow extra time from June to September.

  2. Katraj tunnel and the NH-48 bypass

    The way south towards Satara, Kolhapur and Bengaluru. NH-48 was the old NH-4 on this stretch, and trucks leaving Kothrud, Baner or Wakad usually join the bypass and the new Katraj tunnel rather than cross the city.

  3. Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi

    The large tech park built by MIDC across Hinjewadi. The roads into Hinjewadi carry peak-hour limits on heavy vehicles, so moves in and around the IT park go best when started early or in the middle of the day.

  4. Kharadi and Magarpatta

    The eastern IT hubs, near Viman Nagar and Hadapsar. A shift from here to the Hinjewadi side crosses the whole city, so we plan it for lighter-traffic hours.

  5. Shaniwar Wada

    The Peshwas' fortified seat in Kasba Peth, close to the Mula-Mutha river. Customers in Kasba, Shaniwar or Sadashiv Peth often describe their lane from here, and the streets around it are tight for trucks.

Homes we move

Pune Homes: IT-Belt Societies, Flat-Shares and Old Wadas

The IT belt is full of gated societies with towers, clubhouses and service lifts. Moves here are mostly about paperwork and timing: a move-out form from the society office, a lift booking and a gate pass for the crew. Many societies keep strictly to time slots, so we size the crew to fit.

Flat-shares and bachelor setups are common near Hinjewadi, Wakad, Viman Nagar and the colleges. The goods are few: a bed, a study table, a bike and some cartons. A small vehicle is usually enough, and each flatmate's things can be packed and labelled separately if you are splitting up.

The peths have older houses and wadas, some more than a hundred years old, with narrow stairs and heavy teak furniture. We dismantle what we can, pad old wood with care and carry it out in stages. For a full household in the old city, send us a short video of the lane and the staircase before the survey.

  • Society paperwork

    Many Pune societies want a move-out permission and a lift booking, and a few check that maintenance is paid up. The society manager can tell you the exact list.

  • Peth lanes

    Lanes in the old city may be too narrow for a truck, and parking is scarce. Goods come out by hand or in a small tempo to a spot where the truck can wait.

  • Traffic in the IT belts

    Roads in Hinjewadi, Wakad and Kharadi are slow at office hours, and heavy vehicles are kept off some of them at peak times. We fix loading slots that miss the worst of it and check the current timings for your road.

  • The ghat section

    Moves to Mumbai cross the ghats on the Expressway. In heavy rain, landslides or fog can cause delays, and heavy vehicles may face restrictions at times. We check conditions before setting out.

When to move

When Is the Best Time to Shift House in Pune?

November to February is the most pleasant season in Pune. Days are dry and cool, which suits both local shifts and long-distance moves. October can still bring the last monsoon showers, so keep a spare day in hand.

Summer runs from about mid-March to mid-June and May is the warmest month, so we load in the morning. The monsoon follows, with July usually the wettest, and rain is heavier in the ghats than in the city. Cartons get a plastic outer layer, and trucks bound for Mumbai set off early enough to cross the ghats in daylight.

June and July also bring the new academic year, when student moves around the colleges peak and small vehicles are in demand. If your move falls in these weeks, book early.
