Most of India gets its heaviest rain between June and September. Chennai is different. It gets most of its rain from the northeast monsoon between October and December, sometimes with a cyclone warning. A move planned for November needs a spare date and packing that can take a wet day on the road.

The other big factor is OMR, the IT corridor that runs south from Madhya Kailash towards Siruseri. Many people who work in its tech parks live in the towers along it, so job-transfer moves often start or end there. The road is long and slow at shift times, so we load early.

Our office is in Gurgaon. For a transfer between Chennai and Delhi NCR, we plan both ends and pack for about a week on the road. Shorter home shifts inside Chennai, say Velachery to Anna Nagar, are quoted on volume, floors and parking.

Chennai Roads and Places That Shape the Move

Reference points we use to plan the route and the truck's approach.

  1. Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR)

    Now Rajiv Gandhi Salai, and still called OMR. Tech parks and apartment towers line it from Perungudi to the SIPCOT IT Park at Siruseri, with toll plazas on the road and its link roads. Traffic peaks at shift changes, so we try to load and drive outside those hours.

  2. Kathipara junction

    The large cloverleaf at Alandur, near Guindy, where GST Road, Anna Salai, the Inner Ring Road and Mount–Poonamallee Road meet. Moves between the south and the west of the city often pass through it, and it slows sharply at peak hours.

  3. GST Road

    The main road south through Chromepet and Tambaram. Moves into the Tambaram side use it, and so do outbound moves towards Tiruchirappalli and Madurai.

  4. Chennai Bypass and NH48

    Trucks bound for Bengaluru can use the bypass to join NH48 near Maduravoyal, without crossing the city centre.

  5. Chennai Port

Chennai Homes: Gated Communities, Old Houses and Damp Rooms

Gated communities on OMR and in Perungudi or Sholinganallur run on rules: a booked service lift, a set loading window and a sign-in at the gate. Get the rules from your facility office a few days ahead, and we will fit the day to them.

Older areas like Mylapore, T. Nagar and Nungambakkam have independent houses and small apartment blocks, often on busy streets with little room to park. Here we may send a smaller vehicle, and the crew carries goods the short way to it.

Humidity is the quiet risk in Chennai. Cartons left in a damp room go soft, and wooden furniture can swell. We seal cartons well and wrap wooden pieces in sheeting. If packed goods must wait overnight, keep them in an airy room, off the floor.

  • Truck-entry timings

    Goods vehicles face time restrictions on many Chennai roads, especially in the city centre. We choose the vehicle and the loading time with this in mind.

  • Streets that flood

    Some areas are prone to waterlogging after heavy rain. If your street floods, tell us. In the wet months we keep the date flexible and watch the forecast.

  • Community rules

    Ask about lift slots, gate passes and any move-out form a few days ahead, and share the answers with us.

Which Months Are Best for Shifting House in Chennai?

January to March is usually the easiest window. The rains have passed, the air is less sticky than in summer, and roads are dry.

April to June is hot and humid, with May the hardest month. Crews work best early in the day. Carry medicines and anything that melts in your own car, not in the truck. Chennai gets only moderate rain from June to September, so those months work if you can handle the heat.

October to December brings the northeast monsoon. Heavy spells can flood streets for a day or two, and cyclone alerts can close roads along the coast. If you must move then, keep a spare date, and we will wrap every piece of furniture and keep the load covered.
