Packers and movers · Kolkata, West Bengal
Maxx Relocation packs and moves homes in Kolkata, from old family houses in the north to Salt Lake and New Town flats and homes across the river in Howrah. We plan for narrow lanes, steep stairs and the Hooghly crossing, and quote in writing.
Moving in Kolkata

A Kolkata move often means leaving a house a family has lived in for generations. In North and Central Kolkata, homes are old, lanes are narrow and staircases are steep and tight. Big almirahs, marble-topped tables and heavy beds have to come down those stairs, and the truck may have to wait at the end of the lane.
Salt Lake and New Town are the opposite: planned blocks, wide roads and high-rise towers with lifts. They are easier to reach, but come with building rules and lift slots.
Then there is the Hooghly. A move between Kolkata and Howrah crosses one of a handful of bridges, each with its own traffic, and some with limits on goods vehicles. Our office is in Gurgaon, and we also plan long moves between Kolkata and Delhi NCR, Bengaluru or the Northeast.
Areas we cover
We move homes on both banks of the Hooghly. If your para is not listed, ask anyway.
Finding your way
Reference points that shape the route, especially across the river.
The old cantilever bridge between Howrah station and Burrabazar. It carries very heavy traffic, and overloaded trucks have been barred from it since 2007 and sent to the second bridge, so our loaded trucks are usually routed another way.
The cable-stayed toll bridge further south, carrying the Kona Expressway between central Kolkata and Howrah. Trucks crossing the river usually use it.
The Eastern Metropolitan Bypass runs from the south of the city up past Salt Lake. Moves between South Kolkata and Salt Lake or New Town usually take it.
Links Lake Town and Kestopur with the airport. A useful road for moves in the north-east of the city and towards Dum Dum.
The road from Vidyasagar Setu to the national highways on the Howrah side. Outbound trucks towards Delhi, Mumbai or the south join the highway network this way.
A crowded reference point for addresses in Central and North Kolkata. Moves near it go most smoothly early in the morning.
Homes we move
In North and Central Kolkata, many homes are two- or three-storey houses built decades ago, with steep, narrow stairs and no lift. The heavy wooden furniture inside is sometimes wider than the stair turns. We check the turns and doors first, dismantle what comes apart and send enough hands for what does not.
Salt Lake is mostly plotted houses on numbered blocks, usually with room to park in front. New Town and Rajarhat have high-rise towers with lifts, security desks and move rules. Moves there are quicker, as long as the lift is booked and the society is told in advance.
Flats in South Kolkata, in Ballygunge, Tollygunge or Behala, sit somewhere in between: a small lift or none, a guard at the gate and parking on the road. We size the crew by the floor and the lift, not just by the number of rooms, as we do for any household shift.
On the ground
Goods vehicles face no-entry hours on many Kolkata roads during the day. The exact timing depends on the road, so we plan the vehicle and the loading time around it.
Where a lane is too narrow for a big truck, we load a smaller vehicle at your door and transfer to a larger one on the main road.
Moves between Kolkata and Howrah depend on which bridge goods vehicles can use at that hour. We choose the crossing before the day.
Many towers want notice and a lift booking. Ask your association what it needs, and tell us.
When to move
November to February is the most comfortable time to move in Kolkata. The air is dry, days are cool, and old houses are easier to work in without the heat.
The monsoon, from June to September, brings most of the year's rain, with July and August usually the wettest, and waterlogging on many streets, sometimes for a day or more. We wrap furniture in plastic sheeting, keep cartons off wet floors and shift the loading to a dry spell when we can. March to May is hot and humid, with sudden evening storms, the kalbaishakhi or nor'westers, in April and May.
Plan around Durga Puja. In the festival days of September or October, pandals and crowds close or slow many roads, and moving a household then is hard. If you must vacate before the festival and your new home is not ready, we can hold goods in storage until the roads clear.

Pricing guidance
In Kolkata, stairs, lanes and the river crossing shape the quote. A top-floor flat in an old house on a narrow lane takes more work than a New Town tower with a lift.

It is possible but hard. During Durga Puja many Kolkata roads close or slow down for pandals and crowds, and trucks can get stuck. If your date is flexible, move a week before the festival or after it ends.
Yes. We check the stairs, turns and doorways first, dismantle beds and almirahs where they come apart, and bring enough people to carry heavy pieces safely. See how household shifting works, and tell us about any very large item when you ask for a quote.
Yes. We plan the Hooghly crossing based on the time of day and which bridges are open to goods vehicles, and use a smaller vehicle where the lane at either end is narrow.
Goods vehicles have no-entry hours on many Kolkata roads, and the rules vary by road and are revised from time to time. We check the current timing for your route and plan the loading around it.
Yes. Guwahati is about 1,030 km by road from Kolkata, usually three to four days in transit. Share the full address so we can confirm the route; some hill towns need a smaller vehicle for the last stretch.
