Ranchi sits on the Chota Nagpur plateau at about 650 m, and its summers are notably moderate compared with the plains. Known as the City of Waterfalls, it spreads over rolling ground and low hills, so roads rise and fall between neighbourhoods.

Public-sector employers shape the city. Heavy Engineering Corporation, set up in 1958, has its plant and township on the Dhurwa–Hatia side, and MECON and Central Coalfields also have a large presence here. A transfer or a retirement from one of them usually means leaving a company quarter on a fixed date.

We have no office in Ranchi. Moves are planned from Gurgaon as domestic relocations, whether you are heading to Kolkata, to Patna or north to Delhi NCR, about 1,140 km away by road.

Ranchi Roads, Stations and Townships

Reference points we use to route the truck and plan the approach.

  1. HEC township, Dhurwa

    The Heavy Engineering Corporation's township on the south-west side, with rows of company quarters. Moves in and out follow the township's own gate and handover rules.

  2. Ranchi Junction and Hatia

    The city's two main railway stations: Ranchi Junction near the centre and Hatia on the HEC side. Addresses in the south are often described by them.

  3. Birsa Munda Airport

    At Hinoo, south of the centre, and the busiest airport in Jharkhand. A handy reference for homes in Hinoo and Doranda.

  4. Morabadi ground

    The large open ground in the north of the city, a landmark for homes in Morabadi and Bariatu. Big gatherings there slow the roads around it.

  5. Jagannath temple, Jagannathpur

    A hilltop temple about 10 km from the main town, near the HEC area. Its Rath Yatra and fair in the month of Aashaadha draw large crowds from Ranchi and around.

Homes we move

Company Quarters, Colony Houses and New Apartments

Township quarters, at HEC in Dhurwa and in other public-sector colonies, come with a process. The quarter is inspected, dues are cleared and the keys go back on a set date, and the crew and truck may need gate passes. Ask the estate office for the steps, and we plan the packing so the rooms are empty in time.

Older colonies such as Doranda, Harmu and Lalpur have independent houses, often with a first floor added later and a narrow stair up to it. Heavy almirahs and beds may need to come apart to get down, and we bring the hands for that.

Newer apartment blocks along Kanke Road and in Bariatu have lifts and associations. On the plateau's rolling ground some approach roads are steep; send a photo if your building sits up a slope.

  • Township gate passes

    Get passes for the crew and vehicle from the township office before the day, and tell us whose names they need.

  • Handover date

    We plan the packing backwards from the inspection and key-return date, not forwards from the truck booking.

  • Monsoon rain

    About 1,100 mm of rain falls from June to September. We wrap furniture, line cartons and keep a spare date for heavy spells.

  • Rath Yatra and festivals

    The Jagannathpur Rath Yatra, Sarhul in spring and Durga Puja slow the roads in parts of the city. Try to keep your date clear of the biggest days.

When to move

When to Move In or Out of Ranchi

October to February is the most pleasant time on the plateau. Days are dry and pleasant, and December and January are the coolest months, cold enough in the early morning that work often starts a little later.

Summer, from March to May, runs from about 20 to 42 °C: milder than the plains, but still hot at midday. We pack in the morning, and you keep medicines with you.

The monsoon brings most of the year's rain from June to September. Low spots can flood briefly, and the Jagannathpur Rath Yatra usually falls in these months too. If you can, move before June or after the rains end, and keep storage in mind if your new home is not ready.

Yes, if we know the date early. We fix the packing for the day before or the morning of the handover, load the same day and leave the rooms clear for the inspection.
