A Mumbai move is decided by a few metres. In the island city, from Colaba up to Dadar, many buildings are decades old, with no lift or a tiny one, a narrow staircase and a lane where a truck can stop only for a short while. A wardrobe that came in years ago may not go out the same way unless it is taken apart.

The suburbs bring their own puzzles. The railway lines split the city into western, central and harbour sides, and crossing from Andheri to Powai or from Bandra to Chembur can take far longer than the distance suggests. We plan the loading time around traffic, not around the map.

Which Mumbai Roads, Rail Lines and Bridges Shape a Move?

A Mumbai address is easiest to plan with three things: a road, a station and a side, east or west.

  1. Western Express Highway

    The north–south spine of the western suburbs, running from Bandra past Dahisar to Kashimira, with regular traffic jams. Moves between Andheri, Goregaon, Malad and Borivali mostly run along it, and it crawls at office hours.

  2. Eastern Express Highway

    Runs from Sion through Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and Mulund towards Thane. It is the main road for moves on the central side and out towards Thane.

  3. JVLR and SCLR

    The Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road and the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road cross the city from west to east. A move from Andheri to Powai, or from Kalina to Chembur, usually takes one of them.

  4. Local train stations

    Most Mumbai addresses are given as a station and a side, such as Dadar West or Ghatkopar East. Tell us both. The side decides the truck's road, because vehicles can cross the tracks only at certain bridges.

  5. Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link)

    Opened in January 2024, the bridge runs from Sewri to Chirle near Nhava Sheva and is open to trucks; only two- and three-wheelers and slow vehicles are barred, and stopping on it is not allowed. It can shorten island-city moves to Navi Mumbai, Pune or Goa, and we pick it when the timing suits.

  6. JNPT (Nhava Sheva)

Homes we move

Moving Out of an Old Building, a Tower or a Redevelopment in Mumbai

Many buildings in the island city and the older suburbs were built long before service lifts. Where there is a lift, it may take two people and a few cartons at most. For these buildings we pack in smaller, lighter cartons, take beds and wardrobes apart, and carry large pieces down with extra hands on each landing.

New towers in Worli, Powai or Goregaon are the opposite: big service lifts, but strict rules. Most societies want a NOC or permission letter from the committee, a booked lift and a moving window, and the security desk may log every carton that goes out. Our written inventory makes that count quick.

Redevelopment is common across the city. If your building is being rebuilt, you may have to live in a rental for a few years and then move back. We can move part of your home to the rental and keep the rest in storage, so a smaller flat does not have to hold everything.

Society NOCs, Moving Hours and Parking: What a Mumbai Move Needs

  • Society NOC

    Many Mumbai societies ask for a no-objection letter or move-out permission before goods leave, and some want dues cleared first. Ask the society office what it needs a week ahead.

  • Permitted moving hours

    Societies often allow moves only on certain days or within set hours. Confirm the timings at both buildings before you fix the date.

  • Truck parking on narrow roads

    Lanes in the island city and older suburbs may have room for a truck only for a short time. We may park on the main road and shuttle goods in a small tempo or by hand.

  • Peak-hour limits

    Heavy goods vehicles may be restricted on some Mumbai roads at busy hours. We plan the loading and the drive out of the city around the limits in force.

When to move

Should You Avoid Moving in Mumbai During the Monsoon?

The monsoon, from about June to September, is the biggest factor in timing a Mumbai move. Heavy downpours can flood spots like the Andheri and Milan subways and low roads around Hindmata and Kurla, and a loaded truck stuck in water for hours is a real risk. If you have a choice, move between October and May.

If a monsoon date cannot be avoided, we pack for water: a plastic layer inside the wrapping, sealed covers on mattresses and sofas, and waterproof sheets over the whole load. We carry goods out between showers and check the rain alerts on the morning of the move.

Ganeshotsav, usually in August or September, closes many roads for processions, especially on immersion days. Diwali weeks and month-ends also fill up fast. For any of these, book two to three weeks ahead.
