Surat runs on trade. Diamond cutting and polishing in Varachha and Katargam, and the textile markets along the Ring Road, keep a large part of the city busy. So a Surat move often has two parts: the family's home, and a set of cartons holding samples, files or fittings from a shop or unit.

The Tapi shapes the plan as well. Adajan, Pal and Rander sit across the river from the old city, Athwa and Varachha. A move from one side to the other looks short on the map, but the bridges fill up at peak hours, so we cross early in the morning or later in the day.

Bridges, Markets and Roads That Shape a Surat Move

Places we use to fix your address and pick the time of day for loading.

  1. The Tapi bridges

    Several road bridges link Adajan and Rander with Athwa and the city centre. They are slow at office hours and in the evening, so cross-river moves are timed for the early morning.

  2. Ring Road textile markets

    The wholesale cloth markets along the Ring Road draw tempos and handcarts all day. If your home or office is close to them, loading goes much faster before the markets open.

  3. Surat Diamond Bourse

    The diamond trading complex at Khajod, part of the DREAM City development near the airport, opened in December 2023. Offices moving in or out of it follow the building's own entry and timing rules, so check them before booking the day.

  4. Surat railway station

    The main station sits near the old city and the start of Varachha Road. Streets around it are crowded most of the day, so tell us exactly which lane your building is on.

  5. NH-48 on the eastern edge

    The national highway to Mumbai, Vadodara and Ahmedabad runs along the city's eastern side. Outbound trucks join it without cutting through the busy centre where the route allows.

  6. Hazira

    The port and industrial belt south-west of the city, along the Hazira road. Staff families there often live in company colonies with their own gate rules, and the drive in from the city takes time.

Vesu, Pal, Adajan and Piplod are full of high-rise towers, many of them new. Service lifts are common but not universal, and societies here often want notice before a move. Ask your society office about the lift booking and timing, and tell us which gate the truck should use.

Older parts of Athwa and Ghod Dod Road still have bungalows, with heavy furniture and puja rooms that need careful packing. In Varachha and Katargam, many families live in older walk-up buildings on busy streets, where finding space for the truck is the main problem.

Families linked to Hazira's plants may live in company colonies. These usually have their own entry rules and a checklist for handing back the house, so plan the move date around both.

Surat Moving Checklist: Stock, Streets and Rain

  • Business stock and papers

    Moving textile stock, samples or office goods between cities usually needs invoices and may need an e-way bill. Ask your accountant which documents apply before the truck is loaded. Jewellery and cash are items we do not carry, so keep them, and anything of similar value, with you.

  • Market-hour traffic

    Roads around the textile markets and in Varachha jam up during business hours. We aim to finish loading before the shops open.

  • Low-lying streets

    Parts of Surat near the Tapi have flooded in past years, most severely in August 2006, after a large release from the Ukai Dam, and some low streets still take on water after very heavy rain. If your area has a history of waterlogging, we pick the day with care and keep the load sheeted.

  • Tower rules

    Many towers in Vesu and Pal set moving hours and ask for notice. Check with the society office a few days ahead.

When to move

When Is the Best Month to Shift House in Surat?

November to February is the most comfortable time for a move in Surat. The air is dry, and packing and loading can carry on through the day.

Summer starts in early March, and April and May are the hottest months, humid as well as hot. We start at first light, pack electronics in the cool of the morning and park the truck in shade where we can.

The monsoon, from mid-June to September, is heavy on this stretch of coast, and waterlogging after a downpour can close low roads for hours. Around Diwali, much of the diamond trade stops for a long break and many workers travel home, so traffic and the city's rhythm change. Book early if your move falls in that window.
