A lot of Vadodara's moving is driven by transfers. The refinery, the fertiliser and petrochemical plants and the engineering units around the city bring staff in and send them out on a regular cycle, and many of those families live in company townships with their own rules for moving out.

The rest of the city is just as varied. Alkapuri and Sayajigunj hold older bungalows near the station and the university. Gotri, Vasna Road and Bhayli are full of newer apartment blocks. Around Mandvi and Raopura, the old city's lanes are narrow and busy, and a big truck will not get close.

Baroda Landmarks We Use to Plan a Move

  1. Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway

    The fast, access-controlled road north towards Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. With it, a Baroda to Ahmedabad move can often be loaded and delivered on the same day.

  2. Vadodara Junction

    The main railway station, close to Alkapuri and Sayajigunj. Roads around it stay busy most of the day, so moves in the nearby lanes start early.

  3. MS University campus

    The Maharaja Sayajirao University spreads across the Sayajigunj and Fatehgunj side of the city. Faculty and student moves tend to bunch up around the start and end of the academic year.

  4. Laxmi Vilas Palace and the old city

    The palace grounds sit close to the old city. Around Mandvi and Raopura, streets narrow quickly, and a small vehicle is often the only thing that reaches the door.

  5. Vishwamitri river

    The Vishwamitri, known for its mugger crocodiles, flows west through the city. Low areas along its banks have flooded repeatedly in recent decades, which matters if you are moving in August or September.

  6. Industrial belt towards Koyali and Nandesari

    The Gujarat Refinery near Koyali, the fertiliser plants and the Nandesari chemical units lie on the city's northern and north-western side. Township moves there are planned around shift changes at the gates.

Townships, Bungalows and New Flats in Vadodara

Company townships are a world of their own. Each usually has a security desk, passes for outside vehicles and a checklist for handing back the quarter. We ask for the township name early, so the crew arrives with what the gate needs, and we pack in an order that suits the handover inspection.

  • Navratri nights

    Vadodara's garba nights bring big crowds and heavy evening traffic for nine days. We keep loading to daytime hours in that stretch.

  • Old-city access

    In Mandvi, Raopura and the lanes around them, tell us where the nearest wide road is. A small vehicle then shuttles goods to the main truck.

When to move

Vadodara Moving Seasons: Heat, Floods and Navratri

November to February is the easiest time to move in Vadodara, with mild days, cool evenings and dry roads.

Summer, from March to June, is very hot, and afternoons are hard on crews and goods alike. We load early and aim to close the truck before the worst of the heat.

The monsoon runs from mid-June to mid-September, with occasional very heavy spells. Navratri, usually in September or October, fills the evenings with garba. Plan around both, and the move goes more smoothly.
