Packers and movers · Guwahati, Assam
Maxx Relocation packs and moves homes in Guwahati for families moving into or out of the Northeast, from Dispur and Beltola to North Guwahati. We pack for long road journeys, plan around the long wet season and the hill lanes, and give you a written quote before any work starts.
Moving in Guwahati

Guwahati is where most road traffic into the Northeast arrives, and where much of it sets off again. A move from here to Delhi, Bengaluru or Kolkata is a long haul through the narrow Siliguri corridor in North Bengal, so the packing has to survive several days on the road.
The city adds its own challenges. It sits on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, against the foothills of the Shillong plateau, so some homes are reached by steep lanes or steps rather than a proper road. The wet season is long and heavy, and some low-lying streets flood quickly after a hard downpour.
Many moves here are transfers: state government staff in Dispur, defence families, bank and PSU employees. We are based in Gurgaon, so a move between Guwahati and Delhi or Kolkata is planned in detail at both ends.
Areas we cover
We move homes across Guwahati, on both sides of the Brahmaputra. Ask if your area is not listed.
Finding your way
Reference points we use to find your home and plan the long road out.
The Guwahati–Shillong Road runs from the Paltan Bazaar side through Ganeshguri and Dispur to Khanapara. It is the city's busiest artery, so moves along it start before the office rush.
This road skirts the southern edge of the city between Jalukbari and Khanapara. Long-distance trucks use it to stay out of the centre on the way in or out.
The rail-cum-road Saraighat Bridge and the new road bridge beside it, open since 2017, cross the Brahmaputra near Jalukbari to North Guwahati and on west towards Bengal. Most trucks heading for the rest of India cross the river here.
Guwahati station is in Paltan Bazaar, in the heart of the city; Kamakhya Junction is on the Maligaon side. Both are handy reference points, and both are crowded most of the day.
The airport lies well west of the city, a long drive from Dispur. If you are flying out on moving day, leave plenty of time for the road.
Not in Guwahati, but part of almost every road move to or from here. This narrow strip of North Bengal carries the traffic between the Northeast and the rest of India, and delays there can add a day to transit.
Homes we move
Some Guwahati homes sit on hill slopes, in areas such as Kharghuli, Hengrabari and parts of Chandmari, with steep lanes or flights of steps from the nearest road. We check access before the day. Where a truck cannot climb, it waits at the nearest level spot and the crew carries goods down to it, so we send extra people.
Newer apartment blocks cluster around Beltola, Six Mile, Zoo Road and the GS Road belt. Many are mid-rise buildings, and some have no service lift, so large furniture goes by the stairs. Waterlogged approach roads after heavy rain are the other thing to watch.
Government quarters in Dispur and defence housing across the city follow their own handover rules. Ask the estate or unit office what they need, and when, so packing does not clash with the inspection.
On the ground
Inner Line Permits apply in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, but not in Assam. If your goods are going beyond Guwahati into one of those states, check the current rules for the crew and vehicle with the destination state before we fix the date.
Road moves to Delhi or Bengaluru take about a week or more. Pack a bag for the gap, and keep documents, medicines and valuables with you.
Tell us if your home is up a slope or a flight of steps, and how far it is from the nearest point where a truck can stop.
In the wet months, some city roads flood quickly after heavy rain. We check the forecast on the morning of the move and keep the load sheeted.
When to move
October to March is the best time to move in Guwahati. The rains ease, the roads dry out and the days are mild. December and January mornings can be foggy and chilly, but that rarely holds a move up.
The wet season is long here. Pre-monsoon storms often start in April, and the monsoon proper can run from late May or June into September. Floods on the Brahmaputra plains can hit highways across Assam and North Bengal, which slows long-distance transit, so we watch road conditions along the whole route, not just in the city.
Bihu matters too. Around Rongali Bihu in mid-April and Magh Bihu in January, many people are on leave and some businesses close for a few days, so plan your move either side of them.

The crew travelling with your goods may need one. Both states use Inner Line Permits for visitors from outside the state, while Assam does not. Rules change, so check the destination state's official portal before fixing the date and tell us what it says.
Guwahati to Delhi is about 1,950 km by road, and transit usually takes six to eight days. Delays in the Siliguri corridor or monsoon disruption can add time; your quote gives the expected window for your date.
Usually, yes. If the truck cannot get up a Guwahati hill lane, it waits at the nearest level spot and the crew carries goods to it. Tell us about the steps and the distance when you ask for a quote so we send enough people.
It needs more care. Rain can flood Guwahati streets for a few hours and slow highways across Assam and North Bengal. We sheet every load, check the route before leaving and, if needed, shift the date by a day. If there is a gap between homes, storage can bridge it.
Yes. We plan the packing around your handover date and move the goods by road to your new posting. A car or bike can travel on a covered carrier; see car and bike transport.
Not quite. Guwahati to Shillong is about 100 km uphill on the Shillong road, and it usually takes a day or two, with a vehicle sized for the hill roads and the lanes at the Shillong end.
