Palam Vihar is one of the two privately built pockets of old Gurgaon: The Tribune records it as developed by the Ansals across Sectors 21 to 23, in the early belt of sectors laid out along the old Delhi–Gurgaon road (The Tribune). It is divided into lettered blocks from A to K, with Manipal Hospital at the Gol Chakkar in Block F and the Ansal Plaza mall, opened in 2007, near Rezang La Chowk in Sector 23.

The colony is changing quickly. Plots meant for four flats under the stilt-plus-four rules are being turned into buildings of up to 16 apartments, and the C Block residents' association says a block served by a 9-metre road cannot take the extra cars and load (The Tribune). In April 2026 the planning department cleared ramps, fences and gates built onto the roads, including along an 18-metre road here (The Tribune).

For us that means two kinds of move: a family leaving an old kothi with decades of furniture, and a new household arriving at a fresh apartment where several neighbours may be moving in at the same time.
