Packers and movers · Defence Colony, South Delhi
Maxx Relocation packs up Defence Colony homes for a rebuild or renovation, keeps the goods in secure storage for as long as the work takes and brings them back to the new floor, with the same inventory both ways.
Area overview

Defence Colony was built in the 1960s to resettle armed forces officers after Partition. It sits in the South East Delhi district, between the Ring Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and Bhishma Pitamah Marg, and Lajpat Nagar is the nearest metro station for most of it, as its Wikipedia entry notes. The tracks of the Delhi Ring Railway form its northern edge, and for some homes South Extension station on the Pink Line, on the Ring Road, is the closer stop. When one of its original houses is pulled down and rebuilt as a modern builder floor, the family faces many months away from home, and then a move back into a new floor.
A move like that has three parts: out, storage and back. Most of a large home will not fit in a rented flat, so some of it goes with you and the rest goes to the warehouse. We tag every carton and piece, note where each one is kept, and use the same list for the return, so each room in the new floor gets what belongs in it.
Our warehouses are hygienic, well marked and open for you to inspect. Goods are palletised and kept apart from other customers' goods, under round-the-clock security with CCTV and motion sensors. Our warehousing and storage page has more detail, and household shifting covers the packing. For a straightforward move elsewhere in the city, see our packers and movers in Delhi.
Local know-how
A rebuild move runs for months, not days. These are the points we settle at the start.
On the ground in Defence Colony South Delhi
During the survey we mark each piece for the rented flat or for storage, so the crew loads the right vehicle on the day.
Stored goods sit on pallets, apart from anyone else's, in a warehouse watched by CCTV and motion sensors day and night.
The numbered labels put on during the move out are checked again on the way back, so the new floor is set up room by room.
Some older houses have no lift, and a barsati on the roof may have only a narrow stair. Heavy pieces are taken apart and carried down by hand.
Building dates slip. Keep us posted, and we fix the move-back date once the new floor is finished and handed over to you.
A rented flat nearby, in Lajpat Nagar, Jangpura or around INA, keeps the first leg of the move short and the trips to check on the building easy.
Finding your way
The colony sits between the Ring Road and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, and these are the points to name when you brief a driver or a relative.
On the Ring Road, the Defence Colony underpass runs below the Moolchand flyover. After the rain of 29 July 2025, Delhi's PWD minister named the Moolchand underpass, with Minto Bridge, as one of the city's waterlogging hotspots while saying it had stayed clear that day, ThePrint reported. It is the stretch to look at after a downpour.
Moolchand station is an elevated Violet Line stop on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, open since 3 October 2010, between Lajpat Nagar and Kailash Colony. Moolchand Medcity Hospital and Andrews Ganj are the landmarks listed beside it, and a hospital is an easy name to give a driver who is new to the area.
Two lines meet at Lajpat Nagar. The Violet Line platforms are elevated and date from October 2010, while the Pink Line platforms, opened on 6 August 2018, are underground, and the Golden Line is planned to end here. Tell anyone meeting the crew which line they are coming on, because the two sets of platforms are on different levels.
Homes we move
The size of the plot under your home depends on the block. Newslaundry reported in July 2025 that A Block was set aside for junior officers, on plots of 225 square yards, while E Block had plots of 867 square yards, with allotments made in the 1950s. A floor carved out of an A Block plot holds far less than one in E Block, so the block letter tells a mover a good deal about the volume before anyone visits.
The same report found that most of the original homes have already been replaced by multi-storey buildings, and that the footpaths have gone from all of the colony's 110 lanes. With no footpath outside the gate to stage furniture on, cartons wait inside the house until the truck is in position.
On the ground
For the BRICS summit from 11 to 13 September 2026, Delhi Traffic Police put curbs on Lodhi Road and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and kept commercial vehicles not destined for Delhi out of the city, Business Today reported. Advisories like this come out only a few days before, so check the current one and its timing when you book, and again the day before.
No Entry Permission stickers for goods vehicles run by calendar year. A Delhi Traffic Police circular dated 31 December 2025 let the 2025 stickers stay valid until a decision on the 2026 annual permissions, so the position may have moved on since; check the current timing and the vehicle's permission when you book.
Newslaundry found the whole 750-metre service lane in B Block lined with stalls or parked vehicles, and noted that parking challans cannot be issued inside the colonies. Ask the neighbours the evening before to free the stretch in front of your gate, because the space depends on goodwill rather than enforcement.

When to move
Watch the mornings in July and August. On 29 July 2025 the Lodhi Road station recorded 64.5 mm between 8:30 and 11:30 am, and ThePrint listed Jangpura and Lajpat Nagar, both neighbours of the colony, among the stretches where traffic was hit. On 6 August 2026 congestion and waterlogging were reported from Defence Colony itself, with 60 mm at Lodhi Road, The Federal reported. Keep a spare date if you are moving in those weeks.
The heat can arrive in April. On 25 April 2026 Lodhi Road reached 42.6°C, 5.6 degrees above normal, on what The Pioneer called the capital's hottest day of the year so far. For a move from late April onwards, start at dawn, while the carry down the stairs of an older house is still bearable.

FAQ
Still have a question?
Call or WhatsApp us and talk it through with our team.
Yes. We pack the Defence Colony home, move it to our warehouse and keep it on pallets for as long as the work takes, whether that is a few weeks or well over a year.
Usually, yes. Tell us a few days ahead which numbered items you need and we arrange a visit or a delivery. Because every piece is labelled and listed, we can find it without disturbing the rest.
Yes. Beds, wardrobes and large tables are taken apart so they can go down the stairs, and rebuilt at the rented flat or when you move back.
Yes. The list made on the way out, with its carton numbers and rooms, is the one we unload against when the new floor is ready.
Yes. The things you need for daily life go to the rented flat on the same day the rest goes to storage. It is one booking, with two drop points.
Away from it, if we can. The main market has a roundabout holding the 15th-century Gumti of Shaikh Ali, which has housed the Defence Colony Welfare Association office since 1960, and the area is full of restaurants, coffee shops and galleries that draw visitors, so we load on your block road in the morning instead.
