Moving in Rohini, Delhi: Sectors, DDA Pockets, Metro Stations and the Road to Gurgaon

Moving in Rohini means working with a DDA sub-city of numbered sectors, each split into pockets and blocks, which Wikipedia puts at about 860,000 people on 3,015 hectares. Most of the planning happens at the door: the pocket gate, the stairs and where the truck can stand. The route out is then a choice between the metro for the family and, for the truck, the Outer Ring Road or Urban Extension Road-II.

How is Rohini laid out?

In layers. Wikipedia says the Delhi Development Authority began the Rohini sub-city project in the 1980s "to provide a composite society for all income groups", and that it is expected to grow to 7,548 hectares and 1.1 million people when complete. That aim shows in the housing: DDA flats in numbered pockets, cooperative group housing societies on their own plots, and plotted houses rebuilt as builder floors, sometimes all in one sector.

An address therefore runs sector, pocket or block, then house or flat number. Square Yards, for example, describes Sector 9 as largely DDA flats and RWA-managed blocks, with a few private complexes, and Sector 16 as a mix of societies and builder floors. The older sectors near the Red Line are not the same as the newer ones further out, so the sector alone tells a mover little.

Which metro station serves which part of Rohini?

Wikipedia lists five stations on two lines, and two of them have new names. The Magenta Line has since added a sixth at the southern edge.

The renamings matter when you brief a driver: "Rohini West" in your directions and "Ambedkar Hospital" on a map app are the same place. The Red Line stations were all inaugurated on 31 March 2004, and the Red Line article says Phase IV will extend the line to Kundli with new stations including Rohini Sectors 25 and 26. Building it may bring diversions to roads in the outer sectors, so check the approach close to the day.

Where is Rohini's District Centre, and does it affect moving day?

Wikipedia's list of Delhi's district centres, which cites the Master Plan for Delhi 2021, names Manglam Place in Rohini for North West Delhi, with Netaji Subhash Place across in Pitampura. Its shopping article adds Unity One Rohini, Rohini City Centre in Sector 10 and Metro Walk.

Those are where crowds and parked cars gather, particularly on weekends and festival evenings. If you live near one, choose a weekday morning for loading and agree the truck's spot in advance. A loaded truck waiting on a road by a mall entrance is a delay for everyone, the crew included.

What should you check for a DDA pocket flat in Rohini?

Check the gate, the lane and the stairs, in that order.

1. The pocket entrance. Some pockets have a guard and a register. Ask the RWA what it wants: the vehicle number, the crew count, a time.
2. The lane. If a full-size truck can't turn inside the pocket, a smaller vehicle carries goods out to it on the main road. Tell us the width if you can.
3. The stairs. Many DDA blocks are walk-ups. Give us the floor, and measure the turn on the landing against your largest wardrobe or sofa.
4. The other end. Moving into a society flat? Its committee may want notice and a lift booking of its own.
5. Storage. If the new home isn't ready, our warehousing can hold the goods until it is.

How does a move from Rohini to Gurgaon run?

Rohini is in Delhi's north-west and our head office is in Sector 110, Gurgaon, so this is a long cross-city drive with a state border at the end. The Outer Ring Road is one way: Wikipedia lists Rohini among the places along it. Urban Extension Road-II is the newer one. Wikipedia's UER-II article traces it from NH-44 at Alipur past Bawana and Rohini to Mundka, Bakkarwala and Najafgarh, then to the Dwarka Expressway near the airport tunnel and NH-48. PIB notes that the UER-II and expressway opening on 17 August 2025 was held at Rohini.

Two more things shape the drive:
