Moving on Sohna Road in the monsoon means planning for a long corridor that does not behave as one place: on 6 August 2026 Sohna logged 110 mm while Badshahpur logged 13 mm, and the road itself has caved in six times since December 2023. In summer the problem is heat on a long drive and a long carry, so the Haryana Labour Department's 2026 advice to keep heavy tasks for the coolest hours fits a moving day well.

This post looks at the road as a whole, from Rajiv Chowk past Subhash Chowk, Vatika Chowk and Badshahpur to the projects near Sohna town. For a single sector at the northern end, our posts on Sector 47 in the monsoon and Sector 49 in the monsoon go into the local junctions. For the townships and colonies along the road, see our Sohna Road moving guide.

Which dated reports cover the Sohna Road corridor?

These are the reports we read that name the road, its junctions or the Sohna end. Several more exist for individual sectors; we have kept to the ones that tell you something about the corridor as a whole.

Report date Publisher What it says about the corridor
20 July 2021 The Tribune 120 mm; the city's main storm drain at Badshahpur overflowing; jams on Sohna Road
29 June 2024 The Tribune Over 150 mm, the highest in the Sohna area; roads around Sispal Vihar and Vatika Chowk among the worst hit; long power cuts
26 July 2024 The Tribune About two hours of rain; jams on Sohna Road, with 20-minute trips taking an hour or more
22 September 2024 The Tribune Highway surface damaged in front of SD Adarsh School for the third time in a year, after heavy rain
10 July 2025 The Tribune Rain from the night before; severe flooding on Sohna Road; commuters stuck nearly two hours
7 May 2026 The Tribune Sixth cave-in since 2023, near the June 2025 sinkhole
8 July 2026 ThePrint (PTI) 115 mm over two days; vehicles breaking down in water on Sohna Road
5–6 August 2026 ThePrint; Dynamite News Sohna 110 mm, Badshahpur 13 mm; a work-from-home advisory for two days
9 October 2026 Construction World Sewer relining from Rajiv Chowk to Sheeshpal Vihar due to begin by the end of October

Does rain fall the same at both ends of Sohna Road?

No, and the gap can be large. In the 24 hours to 8 am on 6 August 2026, district figures reported by Dynamite News gave Sohna 110 mm, Gurugram 97 mm and Badshahpur just 13 mm. Under an IMD orange alert, the administration advised offices to consider work from home on 6 and 7 August, so that fewer vehicles would be in the way while crews cleared the roads.

It was not a one-off. On 29 June 2024, after a night of rain, The Tribune reported that the district had received over 150 mm with the heaviest fall in the Sohna area, and most residential areas then lost power for long spells.

For a move, this means a single city forecast can mislead. If you are leaving a flat near Subhash Chowk for a project close to Sohna town, the weather at the two addresses may differ on the day. We check conditions at both ends that morning, and we plan for unloading to finish in daylight at the southern end, where the drive back is long.

Can the road surface give way in the rains?

It has, more than once. The Tribune counted six cave-ins on the highway between December 2023 and May 2026, with officials blaming a damaged 1,800 mm master sewer underneath. The latest, on 6 May 2026, left a hole roughly 10 feet across and 20 feet deep, a few metres from where a sinkhole had formed in June 2025. The monsoon makes it worse: in September 2024, during a spell of heavy rain, the paper reported damage in front of SD Adarsh School for the third time in that year.

A repair is coming. According to Construction World on 9 October 2026, NHAI has awarded a tender to line the old sewer from Rajiv Chowk to Sheeshpal Vihar from the inside. Work was expected to begin by the end of October and run for about three months, once GMDA approved the design. Whether it has started, and which lanes it closes, is something to check the week before your move (October 2026). A winter move here, normally the easy season, may still meet barricades.

Is the elevated deck a way round the water?

Sometimes. ThePrint reported that the elevated part of the road runs 8.94 km, from Subhash Chowk to a point beyond Badshahpur. The places that flood in the reports above, such as Subhash Chowk and Vatika Chowk, sit at ground level, so a loaded truck travelling the length of the corridor can pass over them.

The catch is that society gates open onto the ground road. A truck still has to come down near your address and cross the lanes where water collects. On a wet day we choose the exit that leaves the shortest stretch of ground road to your gate, and we time the drive for after the water has drained rather than during the worst of it.

Have the 2026 drain works made a difference?

GMDA says yes; the roads in early August said not yet. On 5 August 2026 GMDA's chief executive told ThePrint that a fourth drain was now working, carrying water from Vatika Chowk, close to Badshahpur, in the direction of NH-48 and Sector 37, and that another new channel linked Subhash Chowk with the Medanta underpass. He put the number of chronic waterlogging points at five or six, down from 90. Yet the same report described a family caught in the previous afternoon's rain who took 2 hours 40 minutes to cover 18 km to their flat on Sohna Road.

Our view is that the drains may shorten how long water stands, but they have not yet stopped the jams. Book a monsoon move with time to spare, and see the 2027 season before trusting the corridor in heavy rain.

What does the summer heat mean for a Sohna Road move?

Two things: long exposure and a long drive. In late May 2026 the city touched 41.7°C, and the IMD warned that the heatwave over north-west India would last another week, according to The Tribune's weather report of 24 May. We found no separate reading for Sohna town.

Four days earlier, on 20 May 2026, the state's Labour Department put out its heat-season advice to employers; SCC Online carried a summary. Among other points, it asks them to move the heaviest tasks into the coolest hours, to put a two-person crew on any work that must be done in extreme heat, and to provide rest areas and drinking water. Those are sensible rules for a moving day too.

In practice that means a start soon after sunrise, and on a long run to the Sohna end, packing the bulk of the house the day before so the loading day is short. Tower societies along the road depend on lifts, so ask whether the service lift has power backup; in June 2024 the rain itself brought long cuts.

Which months carry the least risk?

Months Reported along the corridor What to plan
October to April Sewer relining due from late October 2026 for about three months Check lane closures near Rajiv Chowk to Sheeshpal Vihar
May and June 41.7°C on 24 May 2026; over 150 mm on 29 June 2024 Start at sunrise; pack the day before; confirm lift backup
July to September Flooding or jams in July 2021, July 2024, July 2025, July 2026 and August 2026; a cave-in in September 2024 A spare day, a route check at both ends, plastic on furniture, storage as a fallback

What goes on a Sohna Road weather checklist?

  • To do: Give us the sector, society and nearest chowk at both ends, not just "Sohna Road".
  • To do: From July to September, keep a reserve date and ask both societies to hold a second lift slot.
  • To do: On the morning, check traffic at Subhash Chowk, Vatika Chowk and near Badshahpur on a live map before the truck leaves.
  • To do: A few days ahead, find out whether the sewer relining has barricaded any lane close to either address.
  • To do: In May and June, pack the day before and keep medicines, documents and electronics with you in the car.
  • To do: If the new flat's handover slips or rain stops delivery, ask about storage until the road or the keys are ready.

Will a monsoon or summer date change the price?

It does not. Our owner's indicative bands carry no monsoon or summer premium; for a household shift within Gurgaon, as of October 2026, a 1 BHK runs Rs 4,500 to 7,000, while 2 BHK homes run Rs 8,000 to 12,500 and 3 BHK homes Rs 12,000 to 15,000. A move from the Rajiv Chowk end to a project near Sohna town takes longer than one between neighbouring societies, and that drive time is part of where a quote falls in its band; our Gurgaon charges guide explains the other factors. Storage days, if needed, are extra.

Key takeaway

Sohna Road floods in most monsoons, rain can differ sharply between the Sohna and Badshahpur ends, and the road has caved in six times since 2023. Keep a spare day from July to September, check both ends on the morning, and in May and June start at sunrise. Watch for sewer relining works this winter.

Treat this as general information rather than a forecast. The reports behind it were checked in October 2026; the sewer work, new drains and next year's weather could all change the picture, so read the latest IMD warning and traffic police updates for the corridor shortly before the day.
