A South City 2 move is hardest in two stretches: late May to the end of June, when Haryana's day temperatures in 2026 ran 2 to 5 °C above normal, and July to late September, when the 2026 monsoon was active over the state. We found no 2025 or 2026 report of flooding or heat that names the colony itself, so the plan below rests on the colony's older records, the official monsoon dates and how its walk-up floors behave on a wet or very hot day.
That gap matters. Most weather reporting is about Sohna Road and its junctions, which our posts on Sector 49 and Sector 47 already set out report by report. This guide stays inside the colony: its blocks, its stairs, its water and power, and the calendar.
What has been reported about South City 2 itself?
Very little, and none of it recent. Here is everything we found that names the colony, oldest first:
| Date | Publisher | What it says about South City 2 |
|---|---|---|
| 6 October 2018 | The Week (PTI) | South City one and two among localities short of drinking water, blamed on GMDA pipeline work in Sector 16 and weak boosters |
| 4 May 2019 | The Tribune | South City 1 and 2 named among colonies with repeated summer power cuts |
| Monsoon 2020 term | CEPT University student portfolio | Block D: 180 walk-up flats finished in 2001, 696 residents, problems with water supply and stormwater drainage, RWA dissolved |
| 3 May 2025 | The Tribune | "South City" listed among areas worst hit by a pre-dawn storm; the report does not say which phase |
The 2018 PTI report quoted a HUDA official who said boosters in the area were not working properly. The CEPT study is a student project rather than an official survey, but it is the only document we found that looks at drainage inside one South City 2 block. Since then, a January 2026 Unitech notice has confirmed that the municipal corporation and resident associations look after the colony, which spans Sectors 47, 49 and 50.
Read the table for what it is: old evidence that water, drains and power have been weak points, not proof of how your lane behaves today.
How long did the 2026 monsoon last here?
About twelve weeks over Haryana. The Tribune reported that it reached parts of the state on 1 July 2026, after a June in which Haryana received only 30.5 mm of rain, 44% below normal. IMD's Delhi office then announced on 23 September that the monsoon had left all of Delhi and most of Haryana, two days before the normal date. The withdrawal line it drew that day ran through Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh and Dholpur, which puts Gurugram on the side the monsoon had already left.
Two dated reports from that window touch the colony's edges. On 24 August 2026 ETV Bharat reported that an hour-long downpour left school buses stuck for hours near Rail Vihar and Subhash Chowk. On 5 September The Tribune counted 36 mm in one hour, with Sohna Road and Golf Course Extension Road among the worst stretches. So the colony's two exits, Sohna Road on one side and the Golf Course Extension Road side for Sector 50 blocks, can both slow down on the same afternoon.
Can it still rain after the monsoon leaves?
Yes. On 3 October 2026 IMD said the monsoon had withdrawn from the remaining parts of North India, yet the same release forecast isolated to scattered rain over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from 6 to 9 October. Delhi's own table of withdrawal dates, in the 23 September release, shows how late the season can run: 8 October in 2021, 10 October in 2019 and 17 October in 2013. For a late-September or early-October date, keep the rain kit in the van.
What does rain do to a walk-up floor move?
It moves the risk from the road to the staircase. The packers and movers in South City 2 Gurgaon page describes a colony of builder floors on lettered blocks, many without lifts, and the CEPT study counted 180 walk-up flats in Block D alone. On a wet day that changes four things:
- The stairs get slippery. Every wardrobe and fridge comes down by hand, so we lay runners on each landing and keep one person on the stairs only to guide.
- Marble and wet soles do not mix. Floors with marble in the living areas need sheets from the door to the first step, or the crew's shoes leave grit and water across them.
- The staircase may be shared. Where another family owns the floor above or below, a wet carry takes longer and blocks their way for longer. Tell them the date and the hours.
- The truck waits in the lane. Cartons cross open ground between the gate and the tailgate, so they are sealed in plastic before they leave the room, not at the door.
Roof terraces need a look too. Plants, water drums and outdoor furniture kept up there are the last things packed and the first to get soaked, so decide what goes before the day.
How hot is the hard part of the year?
Hottest from late May to the end of June, and in 2026 the heat ran late because the June rain failed. The Tribune's 1 July report noted that day temperatures in Haryana had stayed 2 to 5 °C above normal until 30 June. A move in the second half of June therefore met full summer heat with almost none of the relief a normal June brings.
The rules for people working outside changed with it. On 20 May 2026 Haryana's Labour Department issued a heatwave advisory, summarised by SCC Times, that asked employers to shift working hours, provide drinking water and shaded rest, and put the hardest work in the coolest part of the day. Carrying a sofa down three flights of stairs is exactly that kind of work, so a summer job here starts at first light and the heavy pieces go first.
What about water and power in summer?
Ask, because the colony's record is mixed. The 2018 water shortage and the 2019 power-cut report are old, and supply may have improved since, but a builder floor usually depends on its own overhead tank and the landlord's inverter or generator. Before a June move, check three things with the owner or the RWA:
- Is the tank full the evening before, so the crew and your family can wash up?
- Does the backup run the lift, if there is one, or only lights and fans?
- Can the fridge be switched on at the new home straight away?
Is October to March the quiet window?
For weather, yes; for roads, mostly. After the rains, the city turns to repairs. On 8 October 2026 UNI reported that the state government had set 7 November as the deadline to upgrade 100 Gurugram roads and ordered pothole and sewage complaints fixed within 24 to 72 hours. The report did not list which roads, so a lane near your gate may be dug up or freshly laid during a November move. Our Sector 47 guide covers the planned Sohna Road sewer work, which falls in the same months.
Which months carry the least risk?
| Months | Dated evidence | What we plan |
|---|---|---|
| October to March | Monsoon withdrawn 23 Sep 2026; showers still forecast 6–9 Oct; road upgrade drive to 7 Nov | Ask about works in your lane the week before |
| April to June | June 2026 rain 44% below normal; day temperatures 2–5 °C above normal to 30 June; heat advisory from 20 May | Dawn start, heavy pieces first, water and backup checked |
| July to late September | Onset 1 July; Subhash Chowk and Rail Vihar on 24 Aug; 36 mm in an hour on 5 Sep | Spare day, plastic on every carton, a gap if the lane floods |
What goes on a South City 2 weather checklist?
Use this whichever season you pick:
- To do: Block letter, plot number and floor, plus which road the gate opens to.
- To do: Whether there is a lift, and whether backup power runs it.
- To do: A word with the family that shares your staircase.
- To do: Runners for the stairs and sheets for marble floors.
- To do: A reserve date in the same week from July to early October.
- To do: Papers, medicines and laptops in your own car, sealed in waterproof bags.
- To do: Storage booked ahead if the new home is not ready.
Will the season change your quote?
No. The owner's indicative ranges for moves within Gurgaon, dated October 2026, carry no monsoon or summer line. A three-bedroom floor is quoted inside Rs 12,000–15,000, two bedrooms inside Rs 8,000–12,500, and a single-bedroom flat inside Rs 4,500–7,000. Holding goods in storage, or keeping a reserve day, is something you choose and pay for on its own line. Our charges guide for Gurgaon explains what the ranges cover, and our household shifting service covers the full day.
Key takeaway
No 2025–26 report names South City 2 as flooded or cut off; the dated trouble is on Sohna Road and at Subhash Chowk. The 2026 monsoon ran over Haryana from 1 July to 23 September, with showers forecast into October, and June stayed hotter than normal. In a walk-up floor, plan the stairs: runners and plastic in the rain, a dawn start in the heat.
