No colony body or residents' group in Maruti Kunj had put moving rules online by October 2026, when we looked, and most homes here are plots, houses and builder floors with no estate office to issue a move pass. The rules that do bind your move come from public bodies: the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for colony status and waste, Gurugram Police for tenant verification, and the traffic police for when a truck may drive.

Everything else, such as which hours suit the neighbours, who uses the shared staircase and where the truck waits, is settled by agreement with your landlord and the people around you. This guide lists each published rule with its date and says where we found nothing. The colony itself is described on our Maruti Kunj page, and prices, lanes and truck parking are in our Maruti Kunj shifting guide, so neither is repeated here.

Who sets the rules for a move in Maruti Kunj?

Mostly nobody with a rulebook. Square Yards puts plots at 93% of buyer demand and 95% of what is for sale, and a January 2026 Sapient Realty guide says independent houses and builder floors make up most homes. Maruti Kunj is also not one colony: a February 2026 Prime TV India report on the Bhondsi sewage plant counted 32 colonies within it, and listed the MCG mayor and the ward councillor among the guests, which places it inside the corporation's wards.

Your home Whose say matters on the day Moving rules found online, Oct 2026 Settle in writing
Whole independent house You, or your landlord; the neighbours on the lane None Nothing formal; tell neighbours the date
A floor in a rebuilt building Its owner; the other floors sharing the stair and gate None Hours on the stair, who parks where, any damage terms
Rented room or floor in an owner-occupied house The owner living there None Hours, keys, deposit return after inspection
A flat in a managed building, if you have one Its office or managing body None found Lift or stair use, permitted hours, any deposit

"None" means we found no published rule, not that nobody will ask. A colony may have a residents' group on WhatsApp or a guard on a lane barrier. If yours does, ask them directly.

Does it matter whether your colony is regularised?

It matters for services, and it hints at the lanes. Two reports from 2024 set out where Maruti Kunj stands, as far as public records show:

  1. February 2024. The Haryana government approved 173 unauthorised colonies across the state, 21 of them under MCG, and the MCG list included Maruti Kunj Colony Extension, IANS reported in a story carried by SarkariTel on 2 February 2024.
  2. November 2024. MCG finished surveying 294 unapproved colonies in its limits and sent its report to the state, IANS reported on 4 November 2024 in a story published by Sakshi Post. The areas named included Maruti Kunj. Under the guidelines quoted, a colony needed a six-metre road and at least two acres to qualify, and regularisation was expected to bring water, roads, sewers and street lights.

We did not find a later report saying which Maruti Kunj colonies were approved after that survey, so the status of your own colony is something to ask about, not assume. For a move this has two practical effects:

  • Services at the new home. Ask the owner whether water, sewer and street lighting are municipal, and whether any connection is still pending. It changes what works on your first evening.
  • The lane. A six-metre road was a test for the colony, not a promise about every lane inside it. Use it as a rough guide only, and still send us a photo of yours.

Does a tenant need police verification?

Expect your landlord to ask for it. Tenant verification appears in the online citizen services of the Gurugram Police website, next to verification of domestic help. In a colony of owner-built houses, the landlord is often the neighbour upstairs and will want this done before handing over keys.

  • Keep copies of identity and address proof for every adult who will live there.
  • Keep the signed rent agreement to hand on moving day.
  • Hiring a cook or driver at the new address? Their verification is a separate request, made once you know who they are.

When may the truck drive in and out?

No colony rule fixes the hours, but the roads around it have limits. In order of how often they matter:

  • Daily no-entry windows. A traffic-police explainer on the GMDA website shuts designated roads to commercial vehicles for a morning spell (8–10 am) and an evening one (5–9 pm), and offers digital passes only to essential services. The note is undated; check whether it still applies, and to which roads, before fixing the hour.
  • National days. Before the 2026 Republic Day parade, medium and heavy goods trucks were barred from entering Gurugram and Delhi on two nights, Millennium Post reported, from 5 pm on 22 and 25 January until 1:30 pm the next day. For Independence Day 2024, The Tribune reported that the Delhi borders with Gurugram would close to heavy vehicles between 5 pm on 12 August and midday on 13 August, then between 5 pm on 14 August and midday on 15 August. These dates are past; look for the new advisory each January and August, especially if your move crosses into Delhi.
  • Checks on the way out. Police stopped and checked vehicles at the Maruti Kunj T-Point in a drive reported by The Tribune on 23 September 2026. A goods vehicle with its papers in order loses only a few minutes at one.

Inside the colonies, the practical limit is daylight and your neighbours' mornings. Residents writing on NoBroker in 2026 complained about broken approach roads and dark inner lanes, so an early start that ends well before dusk suits everyone.

What can you do with what you leave behind?

Not leave it on an empty plot. A colony with many unbuilt plots makes that tempting on moving day, but on 21 December 2024 The Tribune reported that Gurugram's divisional commissioner had ordered fines and FIRs against people dumping waste in open spaces, naming roadsides, parking lots and vacant plots, and called for joint MCG and police teams and CCTV cameras at dumping spots. Check whether that drive is still active, but plan as if it is:

  • Sell, donate or book collection for old furniture, mattresses and coolers a week before the move.
  • Bag packing waste, such as cartons, tape and foam, for the door-to-door collection, or sell the cartons to a scrap dealer.
  • If a house is smaller than the one you are leaving, decide early what goes into storage instead of out on the street.

Which papers should you keep ready?

Paper Who may want it Have it when leaving Have it when arriving
Rent agreement New landlord No Yes
Identity and address proof for each adult Landlord, for police verification No Yes
Landlord's written note of deposit and any deductions You, for your own record Yes No
Last electricity and water bills, paid Outgoing landlord Yes No
Truck number, driver's phone and crew names Any guard on a colony barrier Yes Yes
Colony name, plot number and a landmark The driver Yes Yes

The last row is not a rule, but it saves time: with dozens of colonies inside Maruti Kunj, a plot number alone does not get a truck to the right gate.

What should you ask before fixing the date?

Put these questions to your landlord and the other households about a week ahead, both where you are leaving and where you are going:

  • To do: Does anyone, a residents' group or a lane guard, want notice of the date and the truck number?
  • To do: Which hours suit the other floors sharing the staircase and gate?
  • To do: Is a neighbour's car, ramp or construction material going to sit outside the gate that morning?
  • To do: Has the police verification request been filed, and by whom?
  • To do: Which colony is the new home in, and are its water and sewer municipal connections?
  • To do: Is your date near Republic Day or Independence Day, and does the route cross into Delhi?
  • To do: Where will unwanted furniture and packing waste go?

Moving between a colony house and a tower society on the main road? The society end has its own pass and lift rules, which our Sohna Road rules guide covers. For a move into Delhi, our Delhi and Gurgaon moving guide sets out the border timings. The household shifting page lists what our crew does on the day, and when the answers are in, ask us for a written quote with both addresses and the date.

This is general information drawn from the sources listed, which we checked in October 2026. Colony status, police services and traffic advisories change; confirm the current position with MCG, Gurugram Police and the traffic police before relying on any of it.
