For a move in Dwarka Sector 7, the riskiest stretches of the year are mid-May to the end of June, when the Palam weather station logged 43.5 °C and evening squalls above 100 km/h in 2026, and July to early September, when rain has put Dwarka roads and the underpass towards the airport under water. The calmest window in 2026 opened after IMD declared the monsoon's withdrawal from Delhi on 23 September.
Of the five manual observatories IMD reports on for Delhi, Palam, at the airport, is the one nearest Sector 7, so the figures below come from that station wherever we could find them. For the sector's lanes, landmarks and building types, see our page on packers and movers in Dwarka Sector 7. This guide stays with the weather: what the record says, what happened this year, and how we plan a moving day around it.
What does the Palam record say, month by month?
IMD publishes long-term averages for its New Delhi (Palam) observatory. The 1991–2020 climatological table gives the mean daily maximum, the mean monthly rain, and the average number of rainy days and squall days. We have added what each month tends to mean for a household move.
| Month | Mean daily max (°C) | Mean rain (mm) | Rainy days | Squall days | What it means on moving day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| April | 37.1 | 10.7 | 1.2 | 1.6 | Hot afternoons; storms possible late in the month |
| May | 40.7 | 32.9 | 2.7 | 4.0 | The hottest month and the stormiest; load early |
| June | 39.6 | 75.2 | 4.0 | 3.5 | Humid heat, with squalls until the rains settle in |
| July | 36.0 | 188.7 | 8.9 | 1.6 | Heavy showers; plan a reserve date |
| August | 34.5 | 197.9 | 9.4 | 0.5 | The wettest month on average |
| September | 34.4 | 117.4 | 5.0 | 0.5 | Rain eases; the monsoon usually leaves late in the month |
| October | 33.3 | 12.6 | 0.8 | 0.2 | Mostly dry and milder |
Two things stand out. Squalls, not rain, are the main risk in May and June: Palam averages more squall days in those two months than in the rest of the year combined. And August, not July, is the wetter month on average, so a move in late August needs the same care as one in mid-July.
What happened at Palam and in Dwarka in 2026?
This year followed the pattern closely. Each line below comes from an IMD report or a news report with its date.
| Date | What was recorded | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 6 May | Hail observed at Palam | IMD May 2026 report |
| 13 May, about 8 pm | Wind of 98 km/h at Palam | IMD May 2026 report |
| 18–21, 24 and 27 May | Heat-wave conditions over Delhi | IMD May 2026 report |
| 19 May | Palam maximum 43.5 °C | Akashvani News, 20 May |
| 7 June, about 4:40 pm | Squall at Palam, 101 km/h | IMD June 2026 report |
| 9 June, about 6:50 pm | Squall at Palam, 120 km/h | IMD June 2026 report |
| 20 June | Palam 39.9 °C on a humid day; monsoon running late | Business Today |
| 28–29 June | Heat-wave conditions over Delhi again | IMD June 2026 report |
| 2 July | Monsoon onset over Delhi, five days after the normal date | IMD, 23 September release |
| 9 July | 63.0 mm at Palam in 24 hours; waterlogging reported in Dwarka | The Week |
| July total | 182.1 mm at Palam, 11% below its July normal | IMD July 2026 report |
| 20 August | Dwarka underpass among the worst-hit spots in a morning downpour | NewKerala |
| 4–5 September | Dwarka underpass towards the airport's domestic side under water; 25.2 mm at Palam in three morning hours | The Pioneer |
| 23 September | Monsoon withdrawn from Delhi, two days before the normal date | IMD release |
The June 2026 report lists several more Palam squalls on 11–13, 23–24 and 28 June, with gusts between 65 and 93 km/h. Even a below-normal July at Palam, as the IMD July report shows, still brought a day heavy enough to flood Dwarka roads.
Why do the evening squalls matter so much?
Because they arrive when a move is often still under way. Every strong Palam wind that IMD timed in May and June 2026 struck in the afternoon or at night, most of them between 4 pm and midnight: 4:40 pm, 5:24 pm, 6:50 pm, 8 pm and later. A crew that starts at nine and runs into the afternoon on a large flat is loading right into that window.
Wind does more damage to a move than heat does. Cartons stacked at a plot gate can blow over, a tarpaulin that is not tied down lifts off an open truck, and a mattress or sofa caught in a sudden downpour stays wet for days. On a gusty day we also avoid lowering furniture from a balcony by rope, which is sometimes needed when a sofa will not turn on the stairs.
For a move between mid-May and late June, we plan the day like this:
- Start loading early in the morning, with the heaviest furniture first.
- Aim to have the truck closed and tied by early afternoon.
- Keep anything left on the ground under cover, not on the open road.
- Check the IMD nowcast for Delhi before the truck leaves; if a warning is out for your area, wait for it to pass rather than drive into it.
Where does water collect on the way in or out of Sector 7?
Inside the sector, the local news site Dwarka City named the Sector-7 junction in July 2025 as one of Dwarka's places where water keeps collecting after rain. Around it, the 2026 reports point to three spots:
- The Dwarka underpass towards the airport. The Pioneer reported on 6 September 2026 that the underpass linking Palam with the IGI domestic area had flooded after Friday's rain, partly because of flooding in nearby Mehrampur. It was also among the worst-hit spots on 20 August, NewKerala reported. If the truck is heading towards NH-48 or Gurgaon, have a second route ready.
- Omaxe Road and the DJB Chowk stretch. The same Pioneer report said water spread along Omaxe Road and the road from DJB Chowk towards Omaxe, "covering several sectors".
- Underpass closures. Under PWD's flood-control order, the Pioneer report says, ground staff alert the control room once water in an underpass reaches 6 to 8 inches, and traffic police may stop vehicles if pumping cannot keep up. A closure like that can leave a loaded truck waiting or sent round another way.
On 9 July, The Week listed Dwarka among areas with waterlogging after a red-alert night. None of these reports names a closure inside Sector 7 itself, but they show where a truck can be delayed on its way to or from the sector.
How do we pack for a hot or wet moving day?
The goods need different protection in each season.
In the heat (May and June):
- To do: Defrost and dry the fridge a day before; carry a cool box for food and medicines
- To do: Move candles, cosmetics, vinyl records, photographs and medicines in the family car, not the truck
- To do: Back up laptops and keep them with you; a truck box in the sun gets far hotter than the air
- To do: Keep drinking water for the crew at both ends, and plan a break in the shade
In the rain (July to mid-September):
- To do: Wrap mattresses, sofas and upholstered chairs in plastic sheet, sealed at the ends
- To do: Keep cartons off wet ground on boards or a tarpaulin at the loading point
- To do: Load books, papers and electronics in the middle of the truck, away from the doors
- To do: Lay sheets or old towels at both doorways so wet shoes do not mark the floors
- To do: Agree a reserve date in the quote, in case a red alert lands on the day

When is the best time to move into or out of Sector 7?
For weather alone, the weeks after the monsoon leaves. In 2026 IMD announced the withdrawal on 23 September, against a normal date of 25 September, after a season in which Delhi's base station measured 728.6 mm from 1 June, 16% above normal. Palam's long-term averages give October less than one rainy day and a mean maximum just above 33 °C.
Two Delhi road rules shape the late-autumn window, and both are dated:
- Trucks from outside Delhi. Delhi's winter plan, reported by The Hindu on 28 September 2026, bars commercial vehicles registered in other states that are not BS-VI between 1 November 2026 and 31 January 2027. A truck with a Haryana number has to meet that rule to bring your goods in from Gurgaon.
- Restricted hours. To drive in the city's restricted hours, a goods vehicle must hold Delhi Traffic Police's No Entry Permission, according to the force's FAQ, read on 20 October 2026.
Our post on Sector 7 society rules, permissions and timings sets out these traffic rules in full, along with what to ask your society office.
Does the season change the price?
Not in our published bands. The owner's indicative ranges for October 2026, for household goods moving from Gurgaon to a Delhi address, are Rs 7,000 to 8,000 (1 BHK), Rs 10,000 to 13,500 (2 BHK) and Rs 14,000 to 16,500 (3 BHK), as shown on our Delhi packers and movers page. A move that stays inside Delhi has no published band and is priced after a survey.
What the weather can change is the number of hours and trips. A downpour may pause loading, and a closed underpass may add a detour. Our guide to shifting within or near Dwarka Sector 7 explains what moves the figure on a quote. If rain or heat pushes the handover of the new flat back, your goods can be held in our storage for a few days.
Key takeaway
In Dwarka Sector 7, plan May and June moves around evening squalls and July to early September moves around rain and the flooded underpass towards the airport. Load early, close the truck by early afternoon, keep a reserve date, and check the IMD warning and the truck's Delhi entry rules before the day.
With a rough date picked, share the two addresses with us with the floor at each end, and say whether you want a reserve date written into the quote.
This post is general information. The weather figures come from the dated IMD reports and news reports listed under Sources; the traffic rules and the 2026 winter plan can change, so check the current position before your moving day.
