A move in Dwarka Sector 13 is hardest from May to August, when nights near Palam stay above 26 °C on average and July brings the most thunderstorm days, and in July to early September, when rain has flooded the Dwarka Expressway tunnel and the Dwarka underpass that lead out of the sector. The weather settles after the monsoon withdraws, which IMD declared on 23 September in 2026; from 1 November, Delhi's winter truck rules take over as the main thing to plan around.
IMD's Palam observatory, at the airport, is the nearest of Delhi's manual weather stations to Sector 13, so its figures are used below. The sector's buildings, schools and metro exits are described in our guide to packers and movers in Dwarka Sector 13. This guide covers the hot and wet months: what the record says, what 2026 brought, and how they change a moving day in this sector.
How hot and wet does it get near Sector 13?
The Palam climatological table for 1991–2020 gives long-term averages for each month. We picked out the columns that matter most for a crew working outdoors and on stairs.
| Month | Mean daily max (°C) | Mean daily min (°C) | Days with thunder | Mean rain (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April | 37.1 | 21.7 | 3.0 | 10.7 |
| May | 40.7 | 26.4 | 7.1 | 32.9 |
| June | 39.6 | 27.9 | 6.5 | 75.2 |
| July | 36.0 | 27.4 | 8.1 | 188.7 |
| August | 34.5 | 26.4 | 7.4 | 197.9 |
| September | 34.4 | 24.9 | 4.4 | 117.4 |
Two figures change how we plan. The minimum column shows that nights barely cool from May to August: June's average low, 27.9 °C, is the warmest of the year. Starting at dawn helps, but it does not take the crew out of the heat. And thunder peaks in July, not in May, so the risk of a storm breaking during loading lasts well into the rains. For the evening squalls of May and June, see our Sector 7 monsoon and heat guide, which sets out the 2026 wind record at Palam.
What did summer 2026 bring at Palam?
On average, a slightly cooler and drier season than normal, with hot spikes inside it. The IMD monthly reports give these figures for the Palam station:
- May. The May report puts Palam's average maximum at 38.9 °C, 1.8 degrees below normal, and its rain at 24.4 mm, 19% below. Yet Akashvani News reported that Palam reached 43.5 °C on 19 May, during a heat-wave alert.
- June. The June report gives an average maximum of 39.0 °C and an average minimum of 25.5 °C, both below normal, with 50.3 mm of rain, 27% short.
- July. The July report records 182.1 mm at Palam, 11% below the July normal, with heavy rain over Delhi on 9 and 29 July.
A monthly average below normal still left individual days well above 40 °C, so a single day's forecast matters more than a month's reputation. The same holds for rain. July was below normal at Palam, yet on 9 July The Week listed Dwarka among the city's waterlogged areas.
Which Sector 13 homes feel the heat and rain most on moving day?
Sector 13 is small, but its two kinds of housing behave differently in bad weather.
DDA blocks in the heat. Sector 13's three DDA pockets are Netaji Subhash, Rosewood and Metro View. Where a block there has no lift, every carton goes down the stairs by hand. On a June afternoon that is slow, heavy work. For a walk-up flat we send a larger crew, pack lighter cartons and plan rest breaks in shade, rather than pushing the same team harder.
Drains around Metro View. In July 2025, Metro View residents told the local paper Dwarka City that they had spent weeks complaining about clogged drains and mosquitoes. If you are moving into a flat there during the rains, look at the balcony and bathroom outlets before the cartons come in, and keep boxes off the floor until you know it stays dry.
The station side. Metro View has an exit of the Sector 13 metro station, and in rain, autos and passengers crowd under any cover near it. We fix the truck's standing point with the gate staff in advance, so that it does not end up blocking the exit while it waits out a shower.
Society towers. Towers with lifts load faster in the heat, but the lift depends on power, which brings us to the next question.
Will water and power hold up on a summer moving day?
Not always, and both affect the empty flat you leave behind as well as the one you move into.
Water first. ThePrint reported on 4 September 2026 that, according to a Delhi Jal Board engineer, Dwarka's treatment plant supplies about 50 million gallons a day and the sub-city needs at least another 50. Low pressure, the report said, makes it hard for societies to fill their overhead tanks, and many buy water from private tankers. Before a summer move, ask the office whether water is rationed by the hour, and keep some stored for cleaning the old flat and for the crew.
Then power. On 27 June 2026, Republic World reported a planned BSES Rajdhani maintenance shutdown in "Dwarka (various sectors)" from 10 am to 3 pm. Shutdowns like this are announced in advance, so check the list for your date. In a lift tower without backup for the lift, an outage in the middle of loading turns a lift job into a stairs job.
Which roads out of Sector 13 flood after heavy rain?
Inside the sector, the 2026 reports we found name no closed street. The risk lies on the main routes out:
- Towards Gurgaon, by the Dwarka Expressway. Business Today reported on 5 September 2026 that heavy waterlogging slowed traffic in the expressway's tunnel, with videos of the water shared on 4 September. This is the usual road for a move from Sector 13 to the new Gurgaon sectors.
- Towards Palam and the airport. The underpass at Dwarka, between Palam and the airport's domestic side, flooded after heavy rain, The Pioneer reported on 6 September 2026. NewKerala named the same underpass among the worst-hit stretches on 20 August.
After a heavy night of rain, we check both routes before the truck leaves and keep a second route ready. For a move to Gurgaon, our post on moving between Delhi and Gurgaon compares the roads across the border.
How do we plan a Sector 13 moving day by season?
The plan changes with the month:
- April to June: work around the heat. Pack the evening before, load from early morning, and give walk-up jobs extra hands. Keep medicines, candles, cosmetics and laptops out of the truck and in your car.
- July and August: work around the rain. Wrap mattresses and sofas in sealed plastic, raise cartons off wet ground at the gate, and stow paper goods and electronics in the centre of the load, not by the doors.
- Any month in the season: check the day itself. Look at IMD's warnings for Delhi on the morning of the move, and at both routes after rain. If a red alert is issued, we would suggest moving to the reserve date rather than loading in it.
- Agree a reserve date in the quote. It costs nothing to name one, and it saves a scramble if the first date is lost.
If the handover of your new flat slips because of rain or a delayed repair, your goods can wait for a few days in our storage.
When does the safer window open, and what changes in November?
For weather, after the monsoon leaves. The IMD release of 23 September 2026 declared the withdrawal from Delhi that day, two days before the normal date, after an onset on 2 July. The same release shows how much that date can move: since 1961, the earliest withdrawal was on 3 September 1982 and the latest on 17 October 2013. A move booked for late September may still meet rain.
Once the rain has gone, the dated rules for trucks become the main thing to check:
- BS-IV trucks from outside Delhi. The one-year allowance for BS-IV goods vehicles registered in other states runs out after 31 October 2026, according to WION's report of 30 September. Under the revised GRAP schedule, Stage III now names diesel BS-IV light and medium goods vehicles from outside Delhi.
- The winter curb. Between November 2026 and the end of January 2027, Delhi's winter plan keeps out commercial vehicles from other states unless they meet BS-VI, with CNG and electric vehicles exempt, as The Hindu reported on 28 September.
- Restricted hours. Driving a goods vehicle in Delhi's restricted hours requires a No Entry Permission, issued by Delhi Traffic Police; its FAQ explains how to apply (checked 21 October 2026).
Will the weather put up the price?
It does not change our bands, which stay the same in every month. The owner's indicative ranges, dated October 2026, for a home moving from Gurgaon into Delhi are listed on our Delhi packers and movers page. By home size: a 1 BHK starts at Rs 7,000 and goes up to Rs 8,000; for a 2 BHK the range is Rs 10,000 up to Rs 13,500; the 3 BHK band is Rs 14,000 to Rs 16,500.
There is no published band for a move that begins and ends in Delhi, such as Sector 13 to another Dwarka sector; we quote that after a survey.
The weather can still change the hours. A downpour that stops loading, a lift out of action during a shutdown, or a detour round a flooded tunnel all add time, and the quote should say how such delays are handled. Our household shifting page shows which jobs the crew takes on during the day.
Key takeaway
In Dwarka Sector 13, plan May to August around warm nights and July's storms, and July to early September around the flooded Dwarka Expressway tunnel and the Dwarka underpass. Check water and planned power cuts for summer moves, keep a reserve date in the rains, and check the truck's Delhi entry rules from November.
With a rough date in mind, share both addresses, the floor and whether each building has a lift, and say if a reserve date should go in the quote.
Treat this post as general information. Every weather figure above is taken from an IMD report or news story named in the Sources list; traffic rules and the winter plan can change, so check the position for your own moving day.
