A Sector 56 move is riskiest from late June to September, when the sector's inner roads, Sector 56 Road and the Sushant Lok 2 lanes have flooded, and in May and June, when Gurugram's heat has gone past 45 °C. The worst dated case is from 29 July 2024: The Tribune found roads across Sectors 55 to 57 and both Sushant Lok 2 and 3 under three to four feet of water, which had also got into ground floors and basements.
Below, each report we could date for this sector and its approach roads is set against the moving-day problem it points to, with the way we plan for it. Where a figure is for Gurugram as a whole rather than this sector, we say so.
When are the monsoon and the hot months in Gurgaon?
The rains usually arrive in the last week of June and last until September, and the heat runs from mid-April. The Wikipedia article on Gurgaon, using India Meteorological Department figures for 1991–2020, gives about 136 mm of rain in July and 211 mm in August, an average June high of 40 °C and a record of 49.0 °C on 10 May 1966. These are city-wide averages; the dated reports below show what that weather has done in Sector 56.
What do dated reports say about flooding in Sector 56?
Sector 56 and its neighbours have flooded in every month of the 2024 monsoon that we could find reports for. All of the reports below are from The Tribune.
| Date of report | Place named | What was reported |
|---|---|---|
| 29 June 2024 | Sector 56 | Blocked drains after pre-monsoon showers on 28 June, one of about 21 areas listed |
| 26 July 2024 | Sector 56, Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road | Waterlogging after nearly two hours of heavy rain; 20-minute trips took over an hour |
| 29 July 2024 | Sectors 55, 56, 57, Sushant Lok 2 and 3 | Water 3–4 ft deep on roads, inside ground floors and basements, about 600 families affected |
| 12 August 2024 | Sushant Lok, Golf Course Road | Sushant Lok the worst hit after more than 200 mm on 11 August; damage to houses and cars "worth crores" |
| 5 September 2024 | Sector 56 Road, Golf Course Extension Road | Among the stretches flooded when the city got 62 mm in about two hours |
| 27 August 2025 | Golf Course Road | Still among the spots that waterlog year after year |
| 11 July 2026 | Sushant Lok | One of 20 hotspots after 115 mm fell in 33 hours |
Three of these say most about a move. In the 26 July 2024 report, a traffic officer quoted by the paper said sewage was overflowing on one stretch and the drains had not been cleaned. Three days later, The Tribune covered a minister's visit: Haryana's Forest Minister, Sanjay Singh, told GMDA and the municipal corporation to inspect the area jointly within two days, clear the sewers and stormwater drains, and send water away from homes to natural creeks. The president of the Sushant Lok 3 residents' association called the order "sheer mockery", saying the drains should have been cleaned in time. On 5 September the paper listed Sector 56 Road among the inundated roads, with the India Meteorological Department's yellow alert running to 8 September.
The August 2024 report names "Sushant Lok" without saying which phase. The July 2026 report, on 20 hotspots, also says only "Sushant Lok"; in it the municipal commissioner, Pradeep Dahiya, blamed population density that had grown faster than the drains were designed for.
Is anything being done about the drains?
Yes, but not yet in a way that lets you ignore the forecast. In December 2024, The Tribune reported that GMDA planned 6,000 new road gullies, including 700 in Sectors 44 to 56, placing them every 10 metres on main roads instead of the existing 50. In August 2025 the same paper reported that, despite Rs 500 crore allocated since 2016, Golf Course Road was still flooding every year. Plan a monsoon move on the assumption that the lanes may still fill.
How does a flooded lane change a moving day?
It can stop the truck, soak the goods or end the day early. From the reports above, these are the risks we plan for in Sector 56 and Sushant Lok 2:
- Ground floors and basements. The July 2024 water got inside homes at these levels. We pack them first and load them early, and cartons wait on pallets or furniture, never on the floor.
- A truck that cannot reach the door. We do not drive a loaded truck through deep water. If the lane fills, we wait for it to drain or shift goods to a smaller vehicle.
- Upholstery and mattresses. Sofas, mattresses and fabric chairs go into plastic film before they leave the house, and the truck is covered.
- Slow roads. On 26 July 2024 short trips took three times as long. A rain day can turn a one-day local move into a two-day one.
- Goods with nowhere to go. If the next flat is not ready, or the lane is under water on the day, goods can go into storage until it clears.

How hot does it get in May and June, and what does heat do to a move?
Hot enough to change the timetable. The Tribune reported that on 15 May 2022 Gurugram reached 48.1 °C, the hottest place in Punjab and Haryana that day. Two years later, on 16 May 2024, it reported an IMD heatwave warning for Gurugram: 42 °C recorded on 15 May, and 43 to 45 °C forecast over the following week. IMD advised people to avoid long exposure to the sun and to take more and longer breaks during outdoor work. These are city-wide figures; we found no separate heat report for Sector 56.
In practice that means:
- Start early. We aim to load in the morning and keep the heaviest carrying out of the early-afternoon sun.
- Breaks and water for the crew. IMD's advice on breaks applies to a moving crew carrying furniture down stairs.
- Keep the sensitive items out of a parked truck. Medicines, candles, wax-sealed jars, vinyl records, plants and pets travel in your car, not in the truck.
- Electronics travel last. Laptops, a television and hard drives go on the truck last and come off first, so they spend the least time in a hot cargo box.
- Watch the evening traffic. An early start also gets the truck through AIT Chowk, the signal-controlled roundabout joining Sectors 53 to 56, before the office rush; in May 2025 The Tribune described long snarls there at peak times.
Which weeks are safest for a Sector 56 move?
October to March has no dated flood or heat reports for this area in the sources we checked, so it is the safest window. Use this table to weigh the rest of the year:
| Months | Main weather risk | How we plan the day |
|---|---|---|
| October to March | None found in dated reports | Ordinary planning |
| April to early June | Heat, with May 2022 and May 2024 warnings | Early start, breaks, sensitive items out of the truck |
| Late June | Pre-monsoon showers; blocked drains in Sector 56 (June 2024) | Check the forecast, ask the society about drains near the gate |
| July to September | Flooded roads and ground floors (July, August and September 2024) | A spare day, plastic wrap, ground floors packed first, storage as back-up |
How should you plan a Sector 56 move in the rains or the heat?
- To do: Choose a date with a spare day after it, from late June to September.
- To do: Tell us at the survey if you live on a ground floor or keep things in a basement.
- To do: Check the IMD forecast two days before, and again on the morning.
- To do: Ask your society where the truck can stand if the usual spot floods.
- To do: Move medicines, documents and pets yourself, out of the heat.
- To do: Keep the new home's floors dry: lay sheets at the entrance for wet boots.
- To do: Agree what happens if the move is postponed for rain: the new date and any storage.
Key takeaway
In Sector 56, flooding is recorded from late June to September and heat warnings in May. Book outside those weeks if you can; if not, keep a spare day and pack the ground floor first.
