For a Sector 61 move, the monsoon problem is the road in: Golf Course Extension Road, which serves the sector, was reported waterlogged in July, August and September 2024 and again on 7 July 2026. Summer brings no dated report for this sector or road that we could find, so heat calls for ordinary care, while July to early September is when a moving day here most often goes wrong.
We looked only for dated reports that name Sector 61 or Golf Course Extension Road. None named Sector 61 itself; every report below is about the road the sector depends on, and we say what each one means for a truck full of furniture.
What do dated reports say about Golf Course Extension Road in the rains?
They show the road flooding in each of the last three monsoons we checked. The Tribune, in May 2026, called it the road joining Sohna Road to Golf Course Road that residents of Sectors 58 to 67 rely on, which includes Sector 61.
| Date of report | Publisher | What was reported on or about the road |
|---|---|---|
| 25 February 2024 | The Tribune | GMDA's principal adviser found drain cover slabs missing at most points between Vatika Chowk and Ghata village, with no footpaths |
| 25 July 2024 | The Tribune | Waterlogging on the Southern Peripheral Road, Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna Road in office hours; a 20-minute stretch not crossed in an hour |
| 26 July 2024 | The Tribune | Golf Course Extension Road among stretches waterlogged after nearly two hours of heavy rain |
| 29 August 2024 | The Tribune | Waterlogging after overnight rain at spots including Golf Course Extension Road, with power cuts across the city |
| 5 September 2024 | The Tribune | Waterlogged when Gurugram got 62 mm in about two hours; IMD yellow alert to 8 September |
| 27 August 2025 | The Tribune | "Golf Course Extension" on the list of places that flood year after year |
| 7 July 2026 | The Tribune | The season's first heavy rain left the road and Vatika Chowk jammed by standing water |
Two of these carry the detail a mover needs. On 25 July 2024, a traffic officer for the area told The Tribune that heavy waterlogging had covered the entire road, and that the traffic police had been raising the drainage problem with civic bodies for days. On 7 July 2026, the paper's report on the first heavy monsoon rain recorded up to 82 mm in parts of the district and quoted one commuter: a drive that normally takes 5 to 6 minutes had taken nearly 45; the paper's list of jammed spots that day included both Golf Course Extension Road and Vatika Chowk.
The August 2025 report is the one that shows a pattern rather than a bad day. Despite Rs 500 crore spent on waterlogging since 2016, The Tribune counted about 100 spots that still flood, and it named Golf Course Extension among the residential and market areas on that list.
Why does this road hold water?
The reports point to drains, and to the land the road sits on. In February 2024, GMDA's principal adviser for urban development, D S Dhesi, inspected the stretch from Vatika Chowk to Ghata village and wrote that the slabs meant to cover the drains were missing at most points. A Rs 7 crore maintenance tender had been given out, but the paper found the work had not begun.
According to The Daily Jagran in October 2025, GMDA officials were weighing a flyover against an underpass for five junctions on the same Ghata–Vatika Chowk stretch. Officials worried about an underpass flooding because the road runs near the Aravalli foothills and the Badshahpur nala, the drain that carries the monsoon run-off. Rain coming down from higher ground towards a large drain is the setting a Sector 61 move has to plan around.
Will the new drains fix it before your move?
Not on any date we can confirm. A Tribune story of 3 May 2026 said the tender was complete for an eight-lane Golf Course Extension Road to be built by GMDA with a modern drainage system on both sides, footpaths and LED street lights, and said ground work would begin the following week under a traffic plan for the construction period. The flooding of 7 July 2026 came two months later. Until a report says the drains are finished, treat the road as one that floods.
Road works bring their own moving-day issues: narrowed lanes, diversions and barricades near junctions. When you book, tell us the tower and gate you are moving to or from, and we check the current approach before sending a truck.
How does a flooded approach road change a Sector 61 moving day?
It changes when the truck arrives, how the goods travel, and sometimes whether the move finishes the same day. These are the risks the reports above point to, and how we deal with each:
- The truck is stuck short of the gate. A 20-minute stretch that takes an hour, as on 25 July 2024, can push the unloading into the evening. We start early and keep a spare day free after a monsoon booking.
- Water at the kerb. We do not drive a loaded truck through standing water of unknown depth, and the open drains reported in 2024 are a reason not to guess. If the gate approach is flooded, the truck holds back until the level drops.
- Wet loading. Sofas, mattresses and cartons are wrapped in plastic before they leave the flat, and the truck is covered. Cartons wait on pallets or furniture, never on a wet floor.
- Crew on foot. With drain slabs missing and no footpaths on parts of the road, our crew carry goods only inside the society's compound, not along the road edge.
- Nowhere to go. If the new flat is not ready, or the road shuts on the day, the packed load can go into our storage and come to Sector 61 once the water clears.
Is summer heat a problem for a move in Sector 61?
It needs care rather than a change of plan. We found no dated heat or power-cut report that names Sector 61 or Golf Course Extension Road, so we have no local figure to give you. What follows is how we run any Gurgaon move from April to June, not a reaction to a Sector 61 report:
- Load in the morning. Heavy carrying is done before the afternoon sun.
- Water and rest for the crew. A three-person crew carrying a fridge to a service lift needs breaks.
- Keep heat-sensitive things with you. Medicines, candles, wax-sealed jars, plants and pets go in your car, not in a parked truck.
- Electronics on last, off first. A television and laptops spend the least time in the cargo box.
- Check the lift. In a tall tower, ask the facility office whether the service lift has power backup, so a cut does not strand furniture between floors.
Which months are safest for a Sector 61 move?
October to March: we found no dated waterlogging report for Golf Course Extension Road in those months. Every dated monsoon report we found falls between 7 July and 5 September, so that is the window to avoid if your dates are flexible.
| Months | What the dated reports show | How we plan the day |
|---|---|---|
| October to March | No dated flooding reports for the road | Ordinary planning; check for road works |
| April to June | No dated heat report for this sector or road | Morning loading, crew breaks, sensitive items in your car |
| July to early September | Waterlogging in July, August and September 2024, August 2025 and July 2026 | A spare day, plastic wrap, storage as back-up |
What should you do before a monsoon move in Sector 61?
- To do: Pick a date with a free day after it if the move falls between July and early September.
- To do: Check the IMD district forecast two days ahead and again on the morning.
- To do: Ask your society or facility office where the truck should stand if the usual spot floods.
- To do: Find out from the facility office whether the service lift runs on backup power.
- To do: Put documents, medicines and chargers in a bag that travels with you.
- To do: Lay old sheets inside the new flat's door for wet shoes and wheels.
- To do: Agree with us in advance what happens if rain stops the move: the new date, and whether goods wait in storage.
Key takeaway
The risk for a Sector 61 move is the road, not the sector: Golf Course Extension Road has flooded in every recent monsoon we checked. Move between October and March if you can; in the rains, keep a spare day and a storage fall-back.
