Bhopal is split by its lakes and hills. Old Bhopal sits near the northern lakes, the new city spreads out to the south, and the roads between them curve around the water and climb over ridges such as Shyamla Hills and Arera Hills. A move from the old city to Kolar Road looks short on the map but crosses the whole city.

As the state capital, Bhopal runs on transfers. Government officers, bank and PSU staff and BHEL employees move in and out on orders, usually with a joining date at one end and a quarter to hand back at the other. We start with those two dates and fit the packing between them.

Old Bhopal adds its own kind of work: busy bazaars, narrow lanes and houses on slopes. The new city has wide roads, planned colonies and fresh apartment towers.

Bhopal Landmarks: Lakes, Stations and the Roads Between

Give us the nearest of these along with your address. It tells us which side of the lakes the truck should come from.

  1. Upper Lake and VIP Road

    The big lake on the city's west side, officially renamed Bhojtal and part of the Bhoj Wetland. VIP Road runs along its shore from the airport side towards the old city, and it is often the quickest way for a truck from Bairagarh into Old Bhopal.

  2. Bhopal Junction

    The main station, on the old-city side. The lanes and bazaars around it are busy all day, so moves in this part of town start early.

  3. Rani Kamlapati station

    The rebuilt station once known as Habibganj, renamed in November 2021, on the new-city side in the MP Nagar area. A good reference point for homes in the south and east, towards BHEL.

  4. Arera Hills and the government offices

    The state secretariat and many government buildings sit around Arera Hills, with officers' bungalows and quarters nearby in areas like Char Imli. Some roads here have gates and security, so allow time for the truck's entry.

  5. Narmadapuram Road and Mandideep

    The highway south-east past the Mandideep industrial area towards Narmadapuram. A lot of the newer housing lines this road, and it is the way out for moves to Nagpur.

  6. The Indore road via Sehore

    The four-lane road west through Sehore and Dewas carries nearly every move between Bhopal and Indore. Trucks from Bairagarh and Lalghati reach it quickly.

Government Quarters, BHEL Homes and Bhopal's Colonies

Many Bhopal families live in official housing: state government quarters in TT Nagar and around the secretariat, bungalows for senior officers, and the BHEL township's rows of quarters on the east side. These homes are easy to reach but come with rules. The allotting office usually wants the house vacated by a set date, sometimes after an inspection.

Private colonies such as Arera Colony, Shahpura and those along Kolar Road are mostly independent houses and builder floors, where a truck can stop at the gate. The newer towers on Narmadapuram Road and the Ayodhya Bypass run like societies anywhere, with lift slots, gate entry and moving hours to agree in advance.

  • Vacating a quarter

    Ask the allotting department what it needs before handover, and by when. If you need a day to clean, we finish the packing a day early.

  • Hill roads

    Roads over Shyamla Hills, Idgah Hills and Arera Hills are steep in places. We choose a vehicle that climbs well when loaded and park it on level ground wherever possible.

  • Old-city bazaars

    Chowk and the lanes around it are crowded by late morning. An early start keeps the loading simple.

  • Transfer season

When to move

Best Months for a Bhopal Move, Around the Heat and Transfer Season

October to February is the gentlest weather for a move in Bhopal: dry, sunny days and cool evenings. Winter mornings can bring some mist near the lakes, though rarely enough to hold up a truck.

The hot season runs from late March to mid-June, with afternoons often above 40°C and May the peak. Loading starts early, and medicines, candles and cosmetics should travel with you rather than in the truck. Many government transfers land in these months too, so book as early as you can.

The monsoon, roughly late June to September, brings heavy rain. The lakes fill, hill roads turn slippery and some low roads flood briefly after a downpour. We cover the load with waterproof sheets and wait out a heavy spell instead of loading in it.
