Maxx Relocation handles house moves in Amritsar, from Walled City lanes to the avenue kothis and the cantonment, including houses whose owners live abroad. We plan them from our Gurgaon office, with a written list of everything packed.
Moving in Amritsar

Amritsar lies about 455 km north-west of Delhi and 28 km from the Pakistan border, on the old Grand Trunk Road that is now NH-3, according to Amritsar's Wikipedia entry. Its Walled City grew up inside twelve historic gates, and the Golden Temple at its heart draws over 150,000 people a day.
Moves here come in three kinds. Walled City houses need a small vehicle and a long hand-carry. Kothis in Ranjit Avenue, Green Avenue and along Lawrence Road have space but a great deal to pack. And some family homes belong to owners who live abroad and need someone to pack, store or ship the contents while they are away.
Amritsar is a long way from our Gurgaon head office, so we plan these moves in detail before a truck sets out. For owners overseas, our international moving and storage pages explain the options.
Areas we cover
Areas across Amritsar where we shift homes, from the old city to the avenues and the western suburbs. Share your mohalla or block for anywhere not listed.
Finding your way
Reference points for planning a truck's way in and out of Amritsar.
The old city had twelve gates; Hall Gate was added in 1866. Inside them, lanes are narrow and busy from early morning, so we use a small vehicle and carry goods to it.
The main road east to Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Delhi. Almost every long move out of Amritsar starts on it.
The busiest railway station in Punjab. Roads around it are crowded through the day, which affects homes and shops nearby.
At Raja Sansi, about 11 km north-west of the city centre on NH-354 towards Ajnala, per the airport's record. It has direct flights to the Gulf, Southeast Asia and the UK.
The road west to Attari, about 25 km away, where the Attari–Wagah border ceremony takes place. Chheharta and the western suburbs lie along this side.
Homes we move
Walled City homes are often three or four storeys on a small footprint, with steep stairs and shared walls. A truck rarely reaches the door. We pack room by room, carry goods out to a small vehicle and bring them to a bigger truck on the main road.
The avenues and the older kothis along Lawrence Road and Majitha Road are spacious houses with drawing rooms, heavy wooden furniture, crockery cabinets and sometimes a basement store. They take a full crew and, for a large house, two days.
Some Amritsar houses are kept by owners who live abroad and visit only now and then. For these we work with the person the owner authorises, make a room-by-room list with photos, and can keep the goods in storage or send selected items overseas.
On the ground
Lanes around the temple are crowded from dawn to late night, and a truck may not get close at all. We plan a small vehicle, a hand-carry and a very early start.
We need a signed letter naming the person who will hand over the keys and approve the list, plus the owner's ID. We share the inventory and photos before the goods leave.
Service families moving out of the cantonment should get the unit's permission for a civilian truck and crew and pass the details to us in advance.
Items shipped abroad need export packing and customs paperwork. We explain what is needed for your destination before we pack.
When to move
Amritsar's winter runs from December to March, and dense fog often covers the GT Road in the early hours. Outstation trucks set off after it thins, so allow some slack on arrival dates.
Summer, from April to June, can reach about 45 °C. Loading starts early, and the long drive happens in the cooler part of the day where possible.
Gurpurabs, Diwali and Baisakhi bring huge crowds to the Golden Temple and the Walled City. If your home is inside the old city, pick a date away from these days. The post-monsoon months of October and November are usually the easiest.

Usually not to the door. We load a small vehicle in the lane, or carry goods by hand to the nearest wider road, and transfer them to the main truck there. Send us the address and a photo of the lane first.
Yes, with a person you authorise in writing on the spot. We make a room-by-room list with photos, share it with you before the goods leave, and follow your instructions on what to store, move or ship.
Yes. Goods can wait in our warehouse, kept apart from other customers' goods, for as long as you need. We deliver them when you are ready.
Yes. We need the date the quarter must be empty and the unit's rules for letting a civilian truck in. Packing is timed to the handover, and a car can go on a carrier.
Yes, if you can. Crowds around the Golden Temple on those days make loading in the old city very slow. A date a few days either side is much easier.
It is about 455 km down the GT Road, so plan on delivery one to two days after loading; winter fog can delay the start. The Delhi page has more on that city.
