Vizag Roads, Hills and Harbour to Know

The stretches and places that decide how a truck reaches you.

  1. NH-16

    The Kolkata–Chennai highway runs through the city past NAD junction and on north through Madhurawada. Trucks leaving for Vijayawada, Hyderabad or Bhubaneswar join it.

  2. Beach Road

    The seafront road from the RK Beach area north towards Rushikonda and Bheemunipatnam. Sea-facing flats line parts of it, and salt spray reaches anything left in the open.

  3. Visakhapatnam Port

    A major port in the natural harbour at the heart of the city. The port authority reports handling 82.62 million tonnes of cargo in 2024–25, and its approach roads are busy with cargo trucks.

  4. Naval Dockyard and naval areas

    Naval establishments have their own entry rules. Moves in or out of service housing need permission and passes for the crew and vehicle, arranged before the day.

  5. Vizag Steel township, Ukkunagaram

    The township of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, the steel plant commissioned in 1992, south-west of the city. Quarter handovers there follow the company's own process.

Many Vizag moves start or end in service housing: naval quarters, port colonies and the steel township. These come with a handover date, an inspection and entry passes for the crew and vehicle. Share the rules with us early and we plan the day around them.

Flats along Beach Road, in MVP Colony and at Rushikonda often face the sea, and salt air is hard on metal. Cycles, gym equipment, steel almirahs and the backs of appliances can rust if they are packed damp. We wipe metal items dry, give them a padded layer and a plastic wrap, and keep them away from wet cartons.

Newer apartment towers in Madhurawada and Yendada, near the IT hills at Rushikonda, have lifts and associations with move rules. Older houses in the central hills sit on steep streets, and there we may carry goods down to a truck standing lower down.

December to February is the most comfortable window, with dry roads, milder weather along the coast and the cyclone season usually over.

May is the hottest month, and the humidity makes heavy work tiring. We start early and keep electronics and medicines out of a hot truck. June to September brings the southwest monsoon's rain.

October and November are the months to watch. Cyclone Hudhud made landfall near Visakhapatnam on 12 October 2014, with winds of up to 185 km/h, and destroyed a large share of the city's trees. If your transfer falls in these months, keep a spare date and we will pack for rain.
