Moving to Faridabad means choosing between quite different parts of one Haryana city: Old Faridabad, the NIT blocks, the numbered HSVP sectors, Greater Faridabad across the Agra Canal (where sectors 75 to 89 are residential, according to Wikipedia) and the town of Ballabgarh at the end of the metro. Shifting to Faridabad from Delhi also crosses a state line, and Parivahan says a car kept in the new state for more than twelve months needs a new registration mark there.
What are the main parts of Faridabad?
Faridabad has six parts worth knowing before a move. The town is old: the district profile says Sheikh Farid, treasurer to the Mughal emperor Jahangir, founded it to protect the highway through it. The modern city began after 1947, when a township of 18.1 square kilometres west of the Delhi–Mathura National Highway was set aside to resettle people from the North-West Frontier Province and Dera Ghazi Khan, the same profile says.
Old Faridabad
Old Faridabad is the old town, with a Violet Line station of the same name. If your new address has no sector number, give the crew a landmark and the nearest metro stop, and check beforehand how close a truck can park.
NIT (New Industrial Township)
NIT stands for New Industrial Township, and addresses there carry a block number: the ESIC Medical College, for example, is in NIT-3. The name recalls that this part of the city was planned around industry, which still defines Faridabad; the district profile ranks it first in Haryana for industrialisation. Give the movers your block number and nearest chowk, and agree where the truck can stand while loading.
The HSVP sectors
Much of Faridabad is laid out in numbered sectors, the pattern HSVP, Haryana's urban development agency (formerly HUDA), uses for the residential sectors it develops across the state; the Violet Line even has a Sector 28 station. For a floor in an independent house with no lift, measure the staircase against the sofa, bed and fridge.
Greater Faridabad (Neharpar)
Greater Faridabad is the newly developed area of sectors 66 to 89 between the Agra Canal and the Yamuna, according to Wikipedia; sectors 66 to 74 are industrial and 75 to 89 residential. Its local name, Neharpar, means roughly "across the canal". For a flat in a society, ask the management about move-in hours, lift booking and the truck gate, and tell the movers which canal crossing you use. Our page on household shifting explains how a home is packed, labelled and unpacked room by room.
Ballabgarh
Ballabgarh is a town and tehsil of its own at the southern end of the Violet Line, which reached Raja Nahar Singh station on 19 November 2018, according to Wikipedia's Violet Line article. It also has a station on the Delhi–Mathura railway, per the district profile. From Delhi it is the far end of the city, so the truck crosses all of Faridabad; start early.
The industrial areas
The district profile counted 311 large and medium units in 2010, and Wikipedia lists tractors, motorcycles, switchgear, refrigerators, shoes, tyres and garments among the city's main products, with Escorts and India Yamaha Motor among its large companies. Moving a unit is a different job from moving a home: goods need their own paperwork, estates may have truck entry rules and machine weights must be known in advance. See office relocation for business moves and warehousing for holding stock while a new unit is set up.
How do the parts of Faridabad compare for a move?
They differ in address format, building type and what to confirm first.
| Part of the city | What defines it | Check before moving day |
|---|---|---|
| Old Faridabad | The old town; own metro station | A landmark; how near the truck can park |
| NIT | Block-numbered addresses such as NIT-3 | Block number, nearest chowk, where the truck stands |
| HSVP sectors | Numbered planned sectors | Which floor; staircase width |
| Greater Faridabad (Neharpar) | Sectors 66–89 across the Agra Canal; 75–89 residential | Society rules, lift booking, gate, canal crossing |
| Ballabgarh | Separate town and tehsil; metro terminus since 2018 | An early start from Delhi |
| Industrial areas | Sectors 66–74, among others | Truck entry rules, goods paperwork, machine weights |
Key takeaway
Pin down the part of Faridabad first: the sector or block number, the floor and the route in decide the vehicle, the crew and the start time. Coming from Delhi, also note the twelve-month deadline for re-registering your car in Haryana.
How do you get to Faridabad, and how do the goods get in?
Goods reach Faridabad by road. From Delhi, traffic crosses into Haryana at Badarpur, and Wikipedia names the Delhi Faridabad Skyway, the main Badarpur flyover, as the city's road link with Delhi. Mathura Road, the Delhi–Mathura National Highway, then runs north to south through the district beside the railway, per the district profile. From Gurgaon, the Faridabad Gurugram Road (State Highway 137) crosses the Aravalli hills in the district's north-west, so the truck never enters Delhi.
The metro carries people, not furniture, but it is the easiest way to see neighbourhoods first. The Violet Line's Faridabad section opened on 6 September 2015, and its stations, from Sarai through Sector 28, Badkal Mor and Old Faridabad to Raja Nahar Singh, make handy landmarks for an address.
What changes when you are moving to Faridabad from Delhi?
The main change is the state. Parivahan's guidance on reassignment says a vehicle registered in one state and kept in another for more than twelve months needs a new registration mark, applied for in Form 27 to the local registering authority. Its document list includes the registration certificate, proof of address, a no objection certificate, insurance, a pollution under control certificate and Form 28.
That is paperwork with the transport department, not the movers. A car that is not driven over can go on a carrier (see car transport), and our page for packers and movers in Delhi covers the Delhi end.
What changes when you move to Faridabad from Gurgaon?
Less than you might expect: both cities are in Haryana, and Faridabad was part of Gurgaon district until 15 August 1979, according to Wikipedia. A car moved within the state keeps its registration mark, but Parivahan's change-of-address guidance asks owners to record the new address on the registration certificate in Form 33 within 14 days. The drive uses State Highway 137, and our page for packers and movers in Gurgaon covers that end.
When is the best time of year to move to Faridabad?
The winter after the monsoon is easiest: Wikipedia calls it by far the most comfortable season. The hot season runs from late March to mid-July, with the average daily maximum peaking at 40.0 °C in May, so summer loading is best done early in the morning. Rain peaks in July and August, at an average of 208 mm and 183 mm, so a monsoon move needs waterproof wrapping.
